Any idea? we've been black shading our Epic and Scarlet Dragons today.

We are Setting to Adaptive at 65c, the thing is we keep getting a yellow T+ if we leave the Epic on after calibration for a few minutes eg 10mins or more. Our Scarlet is fine though and remains with a green T.

If we change the Target Temp to 62c (after black shading with a Target Temp of 65c) then we get back to a green T after a few minutes of the fans running.

We are using the latest firmware, both sets of fans seem to be working........ Nothing is blocking the fan vents etc.

Any thoughts or ideas?

The dragon has much better cooling than the epic, you'll probably need to record for 5 or 10 min just prior to running the Blackshade, to bring the sensor up to operational temperature.

Are you saying that after the camera is on for 5-10 minutes at the specific temperature setting and you then run a Black Shade at that temperature, then the camera drifts out of temperature range?

The camera does need to be up to "temp" before calibration ideally.

I run one at 62 as well.

Make sure urge you've got the camera up and running for about ten minutes before the black shade. Or roll some high speed clips in an empty mag to get it warm faster then just delete the mag, black shade and you'll be set to shoot.

Thanks Guys for all you answers and thoughts.

Shiblon this is my Epic Dragon

Phil, we black shade with a target temp of 65c, We let the cameras warm up slowly over 20-30mins before black shading. It's warm here at the moment in London so they warm up pretty quickly. We wait until we have a green T before we black shade.

David when you say you run at 62c too, do you Black shade with a target temp of 65 and then change down to 62c as the target for adaptive?

The thing is I'm following the same procedure for my Scarlet Dragon and that seems fine with a target temp of 65c Adaptive.

Any more suggestions?

thank you again.....

I just mean I run it at 62 adaptive.

It's hot here too. Last night I turned the camera on for about ten minutes and then did a black shade and performed a 3 hour shot that held the temps Green/Green the whole way through. The temps were 49 and 62 and I think the black shade was done when the camera was at 50.

I have the same issue on latest beta. after a while the temp goes yellow. true outdoors in tanzania and in airconditioned cellar in norway...

Oh. On a beta, I'd file a support ticket and send in a log file.

im on the latest release build.

Im experiencing the same in Beta, but
Is it really that critical if your cameras indicator is yellow if its only a couple degrees off of where it would be green? I frequently see yellow on both indicators but usually in a min or 2 they correct to green by the fan cycling up to cool off but unless its a big difference in to what normal temp for the camera is we usually don't stop production or stop down. I have on occasion when in really hot environments had the red indicators but taken the fan out of adaptive for a few min to cool the camera off but thats about it.

Hi All

I had a chat with the very lovely Sam Measure at Red Europe about this yesterday. It's still not clear why only my Epic is sometimes doing this and not my Scarlet. Anyway Sam said sometimes it's impossible to always have a green T. Yellow is actually ok. (not perfect but ok)

Sams advice was to get the camera assistant (or do DIY) to black shade when you arrive on location if the temp is 10c different to when the black shades were made. Alternatively Sam suggested if you knew a shoot would be in a hot environment that you could black shade at a higher target temp e.g. 70c and then run the fans with a target temp of 65c Adaptive. I think that's what he said.

Anyway, Happy Weekend to everyone on Reduser.....

Thanks for all the responses.

This has always been the case with our Epic Dragon.... Black shade at 65c (sensor temp 46c), but then run at 62-63c to keep the sensor temp at 46c and in the green. Adaptive mode.
