I'm trying to get my head around our gear and basically be able to service and maintain it to the best of my ability, specifically our varied lenses.

I'm looking into collimators for the pro-sumer.
And also would like to find a "lens projectors" but I can't seem to find much on the webs...anyone have a lead for this piece of equipment (what else is it called)?

I'm feeling the need for some more intensive lens education.

Is there anything like a 3-5 day class or some sort of continuing education program or training for technical lens care and maintenance?

Thanks in advance for the help!

collimators and projectors are not cheap. And if lens techs gave away all their secrets, they would see a big drop in business. That said, I'd like to find a projector myself and have posted to see if there are any DIY plans out there. I have a Richter autocollimator and would love to learn how to use it. Let me know if you have any luck.

Abel can offer such instruction on a one-on-one basis. We also sell collimators and lens projectors. As noted, such devices are not inexpensive. But with such a sale we would send a skilled optical technician to install the equipment and train you in its use.

But what kind of advice?

Matthew "yeah, ok so you have a small ding in the outter coating of the glass? That's no problem, you just sand that little sucker off.. Go to home depot and get....."

"Oh, and if you have any trouble, just send it to me and I'll fix it for ya !"

:)

Just kidding

Nope...
I'm specifically prohibited from "plugging" my own services here on REDUser.
I have never and will never plug my own services.
I frequently suggest other service companies specifically for that reason.
May not be smart business.. But it keeps me from being banned and allows me to share what I know about the wonderful world of glass.

Very much appreciated, too.

@Matthew

Thanks for the offer! I will certainly be taking you up on it in the future. It seems like a lot of the solutions I'll require will come from real-world issues. I'll read and research as much as I can, but until I'm sitting(more likely standing/sweating) with a DP looking at some glass that got bounced like a futbol on the tarmac in transit to the location and have to figure out how to adjust things before the shoot, I don't know what to ask.

Glad there's good guys out there willing to spread their knowledge of this "dark art" :P
