  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3???? on Epic

hi guys,

long delay but here's a few frames I can share

we are wrapped with the lens - for the dollars it's a great buy

we are hoping that Red maps the lens so it is supported - aperture reading and control is on/off - we have tried to work out what will make it play nice but can't figure it out, seems to be random

cheers
wes

Anyone managed to get aperture control of the sigma 50-500 working. Tested this lens on Dragon the other day and couldn't get it to work. Would be great to have in a kit when you need to go really light weight.

Hey Jarred just wondering how support for this lens is coming along.
Thanks
Mike

I need a new zoom, my Canon 150-600mm is too big when travelling by myself and I'm tired of the Canon 100-400mm aka The Dust Pump.
BTW how does the mechanism of this zoom work? Is it the same as the 100-400 from Canon?

Keep an eye on those two new SIGMAs too, they have a Sport and Contemporary announced. I see a lot of "shootouts" between those two and the Tamron coming to youtube. ;)

Any link to share about that Malik please?

It a dust pumper like the 100-400. Just shot a bunch with it this past week. Was a bit tricky having to change iris via my 5D but overall very impressive for the price. Can't wait for full support from Red.

We're looking at taking this on a shoot shortly. If you fix it with a 5D does it stay or will it actually change aperture or do something weird while shooting? I wouldn't mind locking it at F/8 and calling it a day honestly if that's the only compromise. Also +1 for full digital support.

How good is the IS?

It was a bit finicky. If the camera powered down it would open up all the way on restart. Also sometime it would not hold iris when placed on camera. It was a little scary wondering if the iris would hold. The iris control would randomly work on startup. Worked out on my shoot with some trial and error.

Good to know, thanks for the info Mike.

Found this video made with the Tamron 150-600 on a Red Epic, figured you guys might want to check it out.

Also can someone confirm if VC is already working?

Nice! I think it would work for me. Price is right. Just curious if RED has got it working with VC And appeture control yet?

what about the nikon F-mount version. Since the nikon mount controls the aperture
..

Canon mount controls aperture as well on supported lenses. This lens is not supported yet. At one point Jarred said it would receive support so hopefully it is still in the works.
