  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Switronix Jetpack X

Is the WC Quick Back v2 your recommended plate for mounting the Jetpack to brain?
I'm probably going to get the JP-V-EPIC (without internal battery) and I'm researching mounting options.

I ended up getting the Recorder Slide from WC. I like the extra cheese plate on the opposite end to mount extra things to like like wireless mics and Teradek.

What cables are you guys using from this jetpack (or similar battery plate) to power your additional accessories?
I need cables to power my monitor (XLR 12V) and Tascam DR-100MKII recorder (DC 5V).

I'm looking at these:

($30) Switronix 28" PowerTap to 4-Pin XLR Cable

($69) Switronix 24" 2-Pin LEMO Jetpack Cable for Zoom H4N Recorder (5V)

Any generic brands out there that do the job?

Akin,

I haven't hooked up an extra external monitor yet. I only have the 9" Touch connected to the camera brain. I use a couple monitors on my directors rig, which are powered by a v-mount battery...but when I get a new monitor, I might grab one of those lemo cables and use them. And just a heads up, I ended up having a little problem with my Jetpack X. Had to send it in. I don't believe its the same problem that others were having, as I was still getting power to my Epic via battery connection, but the backup power wasn't working as intended 100% of the time (only sometimes would it kick on). Also, the Paralinx adapter I had hooked up to the d-taps weren't working, which tech support said could easily be a blown fuse- a simple fix. I should hear back from them tomorrow and they will tell me what the issue is. Again, I don't think it's major, just some early adoption pains that will get ironed out...I'll keep you all posted!

Regards,

Rome

Thanks for the updates. I went for the jp-v-epic, not the version w/ backup battery. I got it used from a reduser. I'll test it out soon when I get my camera brain.

Ok,

I spoke with Switronix today. Vinny and the tech Dan were VERY helpful in getting my issue resolved. Seem's like some very one-off issues that caused a lot of "head scratching" (there words) on what was going on with my unit. I figured it had been a bad capacitor or something, given that performance was shaky...sometimes the battery backup would kick in, and sometimes it wouldn't. Either way, after a couple days of testing and troubleshooting, they are shipping my unit back. I feel much better about the unit given the attention, and wouldn't bet that there are many units like mine in the wild- again, from how the conversation went, this was a one-time type situation that isn't seen often with the Jetpacks. I was still getting power to my Epic, just couldn't get the battery backup function to perform the way it was intended.

Switronix expedited the shipping back so I'll have the unit by the weekend. Once I get it I'll test it out thoroughly. As for the company, customer service has been excellent, and everyone I've talked with has been very courteous and very helpful in getting my Jetpack back up and running. Can't wait to get it and out it to work again!
