I was wondering if it was realistic to have a nikon mount along with the PL. Is the process a pain to switch back and forth. Adjusting the back focus, etc. Or is it better to just own a RED with nikon mount, separately from one with a PL. Thanks in advance!

If you are contemplating switching lenses of different mount types, I'd suggest you consider the P+S Technik Interchangeable Mount System, which you can check out HERE.

That way, you wouldn't have to worry about screws, etc. But, you must note that it will void your RED warranty. At least for now.

Still, a compelling solution for those who don't want to be tied to one type of lenses.

It will take you a half hour every time you want ti switch including back focus. If it is a few times a year ok, otherwise I think not.

I've switched it a few times now. Much easier than I thought it was gunna be. Also, just to note, if you're preparing for a client, you should check the back focus, but if you're mostly just shooting for yourself (like me) then I'm not sure how necessary it is. I haven't changed the back focus at all and haven't noticed any softness in the image. So for me it's just been the swap, which only takes about 15 minutes.

hey pict, you got the two REDs right before mine :)

Hey Brandon.
Coincidence...
Does your boot up everytime?
Ours fails every other time.

Mine worked flawlessly (with the exception of some codec errors when using the beta build) until it bricked. It just turned into a lifeless hunk of aluminum.

here's the thread: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16180

luckily I live in California, so I was able to take it to RED personally, and they handed it back about an hour later it's worked perfectly since (fingers crossed)

I can swap from Leica to PL in less than 10 min. If you put a marker on the back focus part, indicating were the back focus is for both mounts, then you can do the swap in much less than 10 min.
