I've spent about $8000 in RED monitors over the last 4 years. My latest one the 7 inch cost me over $3000. RED has some of the most expensive monitors on the market, yet they don't offer a screen protector for their screens or any type of casing. My screen came back with a nasty gash across the front of it, and it just looks ugly although it doesn't affect the performance when its on. When I saw the part 3 video, I thought maybe I could fix my own screen so I wouldn't have the long downtimes between sending it to California from Miami, waiting for a repair, and waiting to get it shipped back. I don't care what red charges for their accessories, or repairs, but the downtime would literally cost me $5-$10,000 and it doesn't make sense to replace it until I have a system in place that would prevent it from happening again.

Has anyone tried this or something similar?
When your LCD gets scratched what do you usually do? Send to red, or just deal with it?
Have you found any 3rd party screen protectors or cases?
Have you gotten a repair like this from RED? Around how much did it cost, and what was the turn around time?

RED will you be coming out with an case to protect our fragile and expensive LCD monitors?

Loyal red customer, saying thanks in advance.

+1 on the cover.
It seems like a straightforward solve, especially since the 7" already has some threaded holes for a shade...

Try one of those smart phone protectors. You can buy a larger size and cut to fit.

Yeah, ive seen people do this. Im just wondering why they don't provide a product. I don't want to have to cut screens and sht for my $3000 monitor, just sell me one lol.

I’ll probably do a swap on mine, too. I’ve always thought the RED monitors were garbage for the money (mine is green and looks awful, and oddly for the price there is absolutely no way to calibrate it?). Not surprised in the slightest it uses a dirt cheap touch panel.

If you are truly a loyal red user why bring up Jinni especially in your post title? You’re only helping him spread his misinformation. If you truly don’t mind the price (your shouldn’t ) then get a backup or two. This is how any competent production is run.

Why would someone be truly loyal to a commercial company? When Bruce Royce would spread misinformation Jannard would sue him to the end of the world. Price is one of the most important factors for a purchase. A competent production makes money, the more you spend the less you make (it's about finding an optimum).

Why would you suggest someone is disloyal for trying to find out what your gear is made of and if it is user repairable/upgradable.

Us oldtimers remember that when you bought a pro camera like a Betacam you got a set of manuals that not only listed (with part numbers) of every chip, diode, resistor, etc; exploded view drawings, and even exact drawings of the circuit boards, so competent engineers could do field repairs when necessary or simply to avoid excessive downtime. Quite often failures are due to simple inexpensive easily replaceable components. Seems like I read on reduser that even a backup battery replacement can require a trip to Red.

I’m not complaining - years ago Jim explained that they don’t provide manuals to keep costs down - I just don’t think it’s disloyal to examine your options for self repair or possible upgrades. If nothing else Jinni has added to our knowledge base. Maybe he stated some inaccuracies or misrepresentations but we don’t need to throw the baby out with the bath water.

You don't owe Red anything. No corporation deserves your loyalty. You pay them for a product for God's sake. Take it or leave it or break it open to f*** around with it, but the concept of loyalty to someone who's only interested in making a profit off of you is laughable. Then again, this is America...

I Love my RED camera, but I also own an Alexa mini. They are just tools to me, its their job to stay at the forefront. Im not gonna buy their products if they are not priced correctly for the value. Anyways I mention Jinni because his video did show that replacing an cracked lcd screen can potentially be done in house. If I could order the part and swap it myself, this reduces significant down time for me. If RED sold a kit with a video where I could do the same repair, id buy that too. Ive spent atleast $75,000 with RED directly. Im on my 3rd red Camera in 5 years. Jinni is the hot topic, but the thread if you read closely is not about them, its more about having a screen protector solution for our monitors which are basically the MOST EXPENSIVE camera monitor on the market for all cameras. You signed up this year, you have 23 post. I been here since 2013.

A low cost screen element replacement kit for the 7” touch with higher nits. Is that too much to wish for?
