  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Swapping channel 1&2 and 3&4 audio inputs

Had this issue on a recent shoot as well. Would love to see this feature implemented.

I’ll “third” that—would much prefer that the “good” audio be on channels 1+2.

I'd rather have 48V phantom than the ability to switch the channels.

I usually record audio separately, can someone let me know why this is a thing that is needed? I am not understanding the reasoning for switching the audio inputs, and maybe its’s something I should be doing …I don’t know. Thanks in advance.

Ha, sure, along with electronic variable ND and a FIZ port. Maybe on the Komodo XL!
P48 requires additional hardware. We’re just talking about an audio routing—or even just labeling—feature that could probably be addressed in firmware.

I think it’s probably more of a convenience thing. In my recent case, I was recording audio separately into a Sound Devices mixer/recorder, but sending a stereo mix into the Komodo. Generally speaking, whether recording audio only via the camera or sending it mixer output (e.g. for quick turnaround of the edit or for monitoring purposes), you want the external audio source to be the primary audio. And so placing it on channels 3+4 (with 1+2 either blank or hosting your internal mic scratch track) can be confusing/complicated for the editor and/or make things complicated when you interface with stereo systems that don’t see channels 3+4.

There are a couple issues, if someone just wants to check clips on QuickTime, the audio there only plays channel 1 and 2. Also, post isn't always looking for channels 3 and 4. The other main issue is live streaming for clients on zoom. The camera only sends channels 1 and 2 through SDI. It's much clearer and provides less headaches for production to have the external audio be the sound that goes into zoom.
