Anyone else accidentally strip a screw or two? looks like I'm stuck with the lowlight olpf (my preferred olpf anyways) on the swappable mount because the top left screw is stripped for sure and possible another screw. I didn't think I did it tight at all, but low and behold the screw is fucked. I wish the screws were heftier and easier all around for mounting. I found it to be very tedious and stressful. Don't plan on swapping much always after this experience (if I can even get the screws back out!

Anyone else with a bad experience swapping olpfs? :mad2:

There is a way, This might sound crazy but should work fine.

Use masking tape to cover the gate / hole going into the olpf and sensor...

take an electric drill and a drill bit that has about the same diameter as the threaded part of the screws. Have a buddy holding the camera firmly. Set the electric drill (this is important) in reverse and carefully drill on the head of the stuck screw... The head will come off and 99% chance you can unscrew the rest of the screw with your finger tips. If you are worried that you get dust in the sensor or such you can hold your vaccum cleaner right next to the drill.

Goes without saying, make sure you do not slip and push the drill into the sensor or such :)

And again, important to run the drill counter clock vice as that do not put any pressure on the screw and make it come loose as soon as the head fall off.

When done, I guess you need to find another screw. Possibly you got such with that other olpf.

Thread stripped or screw head stripped? Red will doubtless supply replacement screws, (and I sell them too...) but I wonder if you were using the right torx bit? I've had them in and out countless times without issue :/

Not meaning to be a salesman about it, but if you ever want to try Björn's suggestion - my OLPF safety mask would help you to not damage stuff. Have a look on my web store via my sig.

You should start selling tape as well :)

There needs to be quite a bit of bad luck before Adam sets the drill into the glas of the olpf and drills all the way into the sensor or such...So as I see it worse case (can not really see how it would happen) would be that the olpf would break, and even if, that's not so costly.

Thanks for the help gents :)
John please send me a link :))

Adam.

I am assuming that the centres of the screw heads have torn out. Can you confirm if this has happened or the screws have stripped their threads and are turning in their holes and not able to be withdrawn. This information will draw two distinct sources of information which may be more helpful.

it was the head. I had to use a drill, drilled a little more than I liked, but its all good now. Everything is fine but the Lowlight OLPF is trashed. Oh well, you live and you learn!

Oups,
Show picture maybe I can buy it from you. LLOLPF´s are not easy to come by. Been waiting for ours since they where announced. Fixating it with 3 screws should not be to much of an issue, no?

I hope so, but i do remember that the tolerance is something like 0.001" for seating the OLPF housing. Would be interesting to learn how that would perform.

Thank you very much

John, I loved the idea of the safety shield and magnetic torx so I just ordered them from you online. The Red Store in Hollywood should have replacement screws in stock by now as they told me last week when I picked up my LLO that they were expecting them any day now, but I went ahead and ordered your 4-pack of them also.

Can't be too careful when working so close to the eyeball of Mr. Red
