  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Supply chain...

What is happening in Japan is truly a world wide event.

Jim,

As always, appreciate the transparency and communication.
Yours is a company unlike any other I've worked with over a long career.
Though it has been said often, thanks for bringing your values along.

Viewing the devastation certainly pushes concerns about a delivery schedule well behind thoughts of those being impacted most - the Japanese people (as well as their friends and families). Most of us are mere spectators, but on the human side, it still hits hard.

As far as manufacturing, apparently the disaster taking place in Japan will be affecting Sony more than Panasonic; Just read this post on Studio Daily:

The totality of the situation is quite overwhelming. Even my experience of being just a few miles from the epicenter of the Northridge quake is insufficient to comprehend devastation on such a massive scale.

While I'm deeply saddened by the tragedy, I also can't help but be very impressed with the calm and well ordered manner that such a massive disruption across their entire society is been dealt with by the Japanese people.

The governmental response to date has likewise been swift and well managed. Frankly it makes our handling of the New Orleans disaster look, well, kind of embarrassing.

But I digress.

Jim, I'd appreciate an update when possible regarding if media will be effected. Specifically the SSD Module for RED One and SSD media for both cameras.

And thank you once again for taking the time to keep us informed.

Stephen

Thanks for the info Pal.
We are praying for them.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop Jim. It's just one of the reasons I'm a RED customer.

I am a frequent guest in Japan, been there more times than I can count, and have been in touch with many of my friends there over the past few days - most are OK and focused on family and friends, giving support and love in their time of need. Our concern, first and foremost is our for our friends and all those in living through this in Japan. Business concerns are secondary and we will do our best to work through that as the recovery of their marvelous country and culture rebuilds.

Well put Ted, and my sentiment also. What is going on there is almost too much to fully comprehend.

Thank you for letting us know. The people of Japan are in my thoughts and prayers too.

I'm lost for words loking at the latest images coming from Japan. Everything totally destroyed. Were the factories making those components actually caught in the tidal wave?

Devastation of this scale puts things in perspective...
My father is an Earthquake Engineer and he visited New Zealand the next day and stayed for a week collecting evidence but when I asked if he will be visiting Japan he was hesitant because even though we have friends there, the situation is rather dire.
Our thoughts and prayers are with these people trying to recover their families and lives.
Oh, and as for the business aspect, well, that can wait until such time when it will be of use to them again.

It is not in our plan to explain where every part comes from. Many have multiple suppliers and some don't (yet). The point is that we will continue to be as transparent as possible and live with the few "but you said" comments. This is a very easy to understand example of why production is such a moving target. Add this to all the other reasons and you quickly understand why I have posted "Things can and will change. Count on it."

After watching the devastation in Japan it should have dawned on me that it would effect electronics around the world. The effect on Red's future never entered my mind. It's certainly understandable. Electronics shouldn't be high on our list on concerns at this moment.

And for the jerks who think this just an excuse, look again. RED is not the only one who will undergo delays. Sony has also had to suspend production for a while.

Obviously, product delays mean nothing when compared to an entire nation which has been turned upside down. Thoughts and prayers be with our Japanese neighbors...

Agreed. A slight delay is nothing compared to the tragedy in Japan.

After the Taiwan quake I remember RAM prices spiked for about 6 months due to constrained production. We'll probably see many similar such adjustments again as life returns to normal in Japan.

I saw a piece on Japanese Television today with a distillery owner (as well as actual footage of his building being swept away.) he was still just trying to find all of his employees to see if they and their families were ok.
