Hi folks... I'm looking to buy a new Mattebox in the near future... Having worked with O'Connor's O-Box so far, I'd very much like to purchase an ARRI Mattebox...

Up till now I've never worked with an ARRI and therefore have no clue what to buy... I'm working with MP's, UP's, MKIII's and ARRI Alura 18-80 & 45-250...

Looking for a Box which works easily with all the different lens diameters and 2 or 3 filter stages...

I'm tending to go for either the MB-20 II or the LMB-25...

Suggestions and in-depth-looks on both boxes 'd be highly appreciated... :001_smile::001_smile:

Just buy Arri. It's the standard for a reason.

Yeah, I love all of my ARRI stuff... it's simply great... you reckon I'd be on the save side investing in the MB-20 II system...???

clip on style is the Arri MB-5, or MB-25. Simple clean, robust.... the gold standard.

MB-25 is my preference. Never had an assistant not happy with it.

well... I gave the MB-25 a look... looks really nice and very practical... but, is it right that there are no side flags available for the MB-25...???

anyhow... isn't there too much weight hanging on top of the lens with the Mattebox let's say loaded with two filters...??? can't picture it really...

and what is the maximum lens diameter the MB-25 can be worked with...??? it's 143mm if I'm not mistaken...???

appreciate your help, Ruff...!!!:thumbup1:

You will be fine with the LMB.

2 stage / 3 stage. No problem.

Do you really own master primes and you have not used an LMB? It's a global standard...

Just have a chat to your assistants and to Arri, they will sort you out.

Hi-

Just wanted to throw my two cents in from an assistant's POV. It's true the LMB5/15 are the standard and it's a great mattebox design but I like the Bright Tangerine Misfit. My favorite thing about it is that it's so versatile--I've used it on everything from old superspeeds to Fuji Premier zooms. It's slightly lower profile than the LMBs and can convert from 3 to 2 stages and back on the fly with no tools in the event that it needs to be even lower profile. I don't have one in my kit yet but they also offer an ARF accessory to tilt filters to eliminate double reflections similar to the accessory Panavision has offered for years but I've never seen an Arri solution for this. I've not had any issues or questions from anyone else on my crews on set with this mattebox even though they may not be as accustomed to it as the Arris. I've also found that BT has great and accessible support pre and post purchase and I've always found accessories and replacement parts are readily available, I know a lot of Arri parts are often on heavy backorder.

Just my thoughts, I encourage people to at least have a look at the BTs if they're in the market.
