Hi, all. I just purchased a used RED ONE V-mount battery plate (see attached picture) and need to figure out how to mount it onto my upcoming RED ONE MX camera. This is the plate that normally mounts onto a RED Quickplate or RED Cradle. Any thoughts on how I can attach this to my camera? Thanks.

I used the Zacuto plate which I ordered from B&H for about $140. BUT.... it is for 15mm rails not 19mm. So it depends on what kind of set up you are going to go with. My V-mount battery plate was from Abel Cine but the hole pattern is probably the same.

Hey, Chris. I also have the same Long Valley Equipment top handle. I'm trying to keep my setup as light as possible, so I was planning on not having a whole shoulder rig with rods like what you have. Do you know if there's a way to connect the battery plate to the top handle somehow?

Hi Jaime, If you go to the Long Valley website and watch the video on the handle, towards the end he shows some kind of simple rig he made to support a double battery plate right off the back of the camera (attached to the top handle).
I'm not sure if it is for sale yet, though.

Check woodecamera dot com
Thanks, Björn! This looks like exactly what I need. The WC Top Mount for RED ONE + the Bolt ON Battery Mount.

Of course, if I get those it means I can't use my Long Valley Equipment top handle. Hmm...

Yeah, something like that might work. I'll send him an email and see if he has one for sale. Thanks.

I'm rocking a Gini rig, with some carbon fibre 15mm rods. I wanted to try and keep all new purchases in 15mm rods systems, so I can use it with other gear (V-mounts especially). Thats why I don't really want to invest in a Red monitor. Want to upgrade from my lilliput to a smallhd or marshall.
I just need a shoulder pad for 15mm which holds the weight directly on shoulder, like the Allstar mount.

Here is another view of the Tilta rig set up for shoulder work with home-made wood handle and Small HD evf and Rokinon Cine 14mm. I replaced the shoulder pad that came with it with an older, softer one salvaged from a busted Sony DSR-400. Works great and really comfortable.

Hey Chris, nice setup! I am also trying to put together a light minimalistic rig for the R1 BT I have ordered a few weeks ago (have not received it yet). I am pondering between going with a Red LCD or a SmallHD monitor. Trouble is, the R1 documentation is always confusing as to whether a SmallHD monitor (HDMI or SDI) will let you have absolutely all of the GUI overlays and display modes you would have with a Red LCD, or if you can have only most of the GUI but with some elements left out. What has been your experience? Thanks and cheers!

Hey Julien, as far as I know everything menu-wise shows up with the HDMI. I don't feel like anything is missing. But my experience is limited with this camera so maybe someone else with more experience could answer this?
My only worry with the Small HD is the HDMI connection to the camera. It is pretty loose and if you bump it sometimes I've noticed the image flickering or going out on the monitor. I feel like I need to devise some way to secure it more solidly to the camera connector. It seems less prone to this on the monitor end of the cable.

Hey sorry to resurrect...Does anyone know of a good way to more securely attach the hdmi connection!? Like Chris said, it's not very reliable. The 90 degree angle bracket you have on there in the pic is nice. Does that help at all?

Stephen,
The 90 degree connector does help but it also adds another potential fail spot. It is all very loose. And, unfortunately it faces up. I would like to find a cable with built in 90 degree that angles down instead. I think that would help a little. Also, if I can run the cable down, I could try to get some cable clips and run them along the bottom side of the camera to secure the cable a bit tighter to prevent it from getting yanked.
