Hi all

i am editing a music video.

was shot 2K 25 fps
its several angles of a band playing and a singer

production claims they have played the same CD they handed me, from the location's sound system.

FCP
L&T to proress

and the clips won't sync...

if i place the tracks to sync in the beginning, it looses sync after 2 or 3 seconds to a very apparent level.

in the clips from the camera, song is about 83 frames longer than track from CD.

any thoughts on what could have caused this?

thanks

what are you editing in, and are you sure you have set up a 25P timeline? Also make sure that your time base in camera was set to 25P and you weren't shooting 25P on varispeed and now playing back at 24P.

I had this same issue a few years ago. It's because of the CD player on set. What I discovered is that a physical CD player and CD will play the song at a fraction of a second slower than it's actually recorded. Therefore, the song file in Final Cut will be slightly longer than the audio recorded on set. The only way to get around this is by using an Ipod or laptop on set when filming the music video.

Since I couldn't go back and film, all I ended up doing was having to remove a frame here and there to re-sync the music. Since you're cutting a music video, it shouldn't be tooooo difficult to remove a few frames of video here and there when you switch camera angles to get the audio matched back up.

Hope that makes sense! Good luck.

Stefan, its FCP... i wrote it. have enough years of editing behind me to have checked every probable angle of it. :)

RED footage is 25 fps
timeline is 25 fps

Jonathan... its one of my guesses. figured i wouldn't find a magic trick to fix it and that i will have some re-syncing work to do...

but sort of hoped i would find out i fell across a common bug

thx anyway
