Hi all

I was shooting on Friday on an older EPIC-M when a magenta band appeared across the screen. It showed up on the monitor and when I pulled the card and checked the footage it was there. I took a screen shot and I've attached it here. It saved it as a JPG in Photoshop to make uploading it possible.

Has anyone else ever seen this. My guess would be that it was some kind of heat problem but thats just a guess really.

My real name is Delon

Chris, I rebooted the camera and started a black balance, it seemed to get past the first pass but got stuck on erasing the first pass, it just sat there for about 35 minuets. We had to make a call and shut the camera down.

Rebooted it and did a factory reset. This seemed to help and I did not see the problem again.

However it would be nice to know what it did this?

We had almost the same thing but a green and magenta band in exactly the same place on one one card of rushes. Id be interested to know if you check at the left hand edge of the band you may find some pixels missing vertically,, we found there was almost a debayer issue or some sort of pixel of set. The fault with in the band was nearly fixable by splitting the image in the RGB and then moving the green pixels to align with the R and B channels. You loose the left hand segment of image as there are some pixels missing. 3.2.19 was the version in question. Its not happened since though. Id be interested to had from Red on this to know if its been fixed yet or not.

It doesn't look like an Epic shot. Do you have the R3D?

Pat

PS: I hope your post-production workflow is not as complicated as your screen shot workflow... ;-)

I had similar issue happened to me twice while shooting with two Epics in stereo rig. I had to reload the firmware and the problem went away.

Wasn't the lead singer of The Strange Magenta Band related to Madonna?

That's funny :)

This is the same issue that quite a few Epics ans Scarlett's are experiencing. At this point it's thought to be a firmware issue. Your best bet is to log a support ticket and download a camera log file.

Try searching for corrupt frames in reduser and you will find lots of others with similar issues. I have had this issue too.

Has anyone seen more of this band occurring in recent? I had a Epic M with the same problem and with rebooting and black balancing it seemed to go away then it was happening so much i had to send it in to get repaired but when i did they could not recreate the problem. I sent it back two more times with no results. Eventually it happened in a VERY critical situation on a shoot. RED finally did a warranty on the camera.

Here I am nearly two years later with a new (as of August 2013) Epic-X and the same green and magenta band has showed up. I have rebooted, black balanced and reset every thing i can possibly think of and it still is doing it.

Can anyone think of anything that may help?

That is a return-to-RED problem. File a ticket and send in a log. RED said there is a specific board that seems to be the culprit around the time you received your latest Epic-X.)

I had the same banding happen multiple times. Sent it back to red, they told me it was fixed, booted up the camera and the same issue happened again. Sent it back a second time, they acknowledged that there were faulty boards in multiple cameras. Mine is serial 5968 and I'm under the impression that cameras around that batch have the same problem. They replaced the board and gave me an extended warranty. Good luck
