I had a strange and disturbing phenomenon on a shoot the other day. While shooting the Weapon CF on the Helix my footage got a strange flicker (like the exposure changing rapidly about 1/2 stop. I was shooting in sunlight so, no, it wasn't a lighting thing. At first I thought "crap, my new weapon has issues" but I got thinking its more likely a problem with powering the weapon and Helix on the "Juice Box" at the same time, maybe these batteries are wearing out or something and I'm getting low voltage or similar issues. I'm still testing to see if the problem return using the camera with bricks, so I don't have a definitive answer yet. Has anyone seen or heard of a Red camera flickering when there are power issues or for some other reason?

Low power cause strange issues even with dragon and Mx so most likely also with weapon. I have not seen flicker but I had playback not working etc when being on not the correct power. I would use a volt meter and check what you get on the other side of that slip ring. Going trough sliprings of any kind I think its better to push a higher voltage trough and then down convert downstream of the slip ring. as they can make the voltage come with micro variations.

My new 7" touch on my Weapon sometimes fails to power up when using an IDX battery. Red says it could be a problem with the IDX batteries. I wonder if this is a similar case to Mark. I don't know anything about volt meters. Is there something I can do/ask for at a rental house to make sure the batteries I'm renting will be up to snuff?

Just wondering if the exposure fluctuation is aperture related? Are you using Canon or Nikon lenses electronically? Does the flicker only occur when powered by the Juice Box?

Ian, that to me looks like a flare that you are misinterpreting as a flicker... Especially since you are looking at the reflection of the sun in the moving water. But I could be wrong...

Siding with you on this one.

Ah, yes, thanks, of course you're right. Good news - rather be dim than have a problem with the camera!

Are you guys having this issue with red Touch 7" monitors - Lemo version?

i noticed this one or two times with my Lemo version 7"

I only have the cable-free version. I've never seen it happen while on AC power, only with IDX via my Red battery belt clip. Going to try Red bricks to see if it's an IDX problem. What was your power source when you saw the issue?

Been shooting off the Helix all day and no issues at all. My flicker was Helix related, still don't know why. Hopefully I'll find time for further testing.
