I love it when the "little" films blow off the doors.

Conratts to Matthew Libatique for an incredible opening this weekend. Job well done.

In case you missed it, here is a great little article from ICG from last week :

Love it. Going to see it this week now that I'm back in town. We used to get in trouble at school for listening to N.W.A. behind the lockers. Hearing the behind the scenes about the film, how it was shot, Ice Cube's son, and the long journey of getting this film made has been fascinating.

Oh and for the numbers folks. Production budget was around $27 million. Opening weekend take was about $62 million. Through all of the troubles they had getting this film off the ground and made, this proves that it was very much "worth while".

I saw Premiere of this flick before it was released. Crowd was stunned throughout, was one of those where nobody dared go to restroom for fear of missing something good.

And boy was it good. Congrats to Matthew and RED for a wonderful looking Blockbuster.

This is great...we are in prep on our 'little movie' at $1.5 Million shooting two Dragons with big aspirations. We hoped for our Weapons call but it looks like late October. Oh well, we will still do our very best!

I remember being pulled to one side in London by a police man because I was wearing a F*** the Police t-shirt. He asked me nicely to turn it inside out which I respectfully agreed to do , aged 17. Happy Days!

Great article and the movie looks great! Cant wait to see it, hopefully this weekend.

Ughhhh, newborn twin commitments... Soooooooooooooo want to go watch this in UltraAVX at my theater. I need to find a 3-hour window somewhere.

Good movie. NWA's beats were sick. Like a lot of white, suburban kids at that time I was intrigued by the controversy that surrounded them and of course got a hold of the tapes. How a white, suburban kid from Boston could find anything to relate to in the lyrics is a mystery, but I think it was the sheer power of the sound, and the way their words flowed with such intense purpose that I became a fan. I don't support violence, disrespecting women, gangs, or any of the other things they may have rapped about or been linked to but I also didn't know a damn thing about Compton or what it was like to grow up there and these guys gave a voice to that, a reflection of what they were witnessing first hand. I can see how it would be easy to dismiss them if you didn't grow up in their world. Without perspective, judgement is futile.

The imagery looks amazing! Great showcase and proud moment for RED.

Can't help but laugh how this once notorious and dangerous band has become a corporate darling and media franchise. Props to Dre Inc for knowing how to shape the narrative and monetize the myth.

I guess I was one of the white suburban kids. :) Rap is the only thing I listened to from 84 - 92. I would get a ride, before I had a car / license, from Modesto to Sacramento just to go to Tower Records and buy the latest 12" single. I had World Class Wrecking Crews Cabbage Patch (Dre) and CIAs My Posse (ICE Cube) long before there was NWA. Great times! :) I remember in art class when a particular Two Live Crew song came on and the teacher blushed and then rushed to shut off the cassette player.

I hope they release a directors cut of the movie. I recall reading a rumor of 3.5 hours. The first hour was great and the second hour felt chopped up. Overall I am happy the movie is doing so well.

That's what we doing shooter.

From just the trailers and still images, there is a feeling that the acting was ON.

Love the very basic setup for such big images. Must have been a ton of fun to shoot.
