  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Still just testing, still in love

Just another quickie

Still mainly shooting non-speaking subjects.

These are workflow tests to get aquainted with the cam and the workflow
Grading and stuff may su**... :).

Just grabbed the cam and drove away - sorta.

me thinks the cam works

As always, all faults are my responsibility. The cam behaves well...

Still to come:
greenscreen, spring, mountains, citylights and living subjects

Incredibly beautiful...

I really like the grading on these shots. What is your setup?
Your shots have some real guts. Much of the RED footage
is see is milky and has no contrast.

I can't take a quick trip like that and get the same result in Kansas! :-)

Nice footage!

Gunleik,

It becomes more of a challenge each time around to find words to do justice to the images you bring to us...

If there is anything here beyond words its the fact that even without sound we can hear a voice ... That may be Mother Nature herself whispering her secrets to you as you undress her with your eyes ...

Were a few of those shots smoothcamed in FCP? They look jello-y. Still beautiful, don't get me wrong. Just squishy sometimes.

Thanks a lot, really appricceate!

Paris:
yep. Spot on. Didn't involve Shake in this... Still working on my chops with a shoulder cam... :)

The whole workflow on these shots is quite quick and really going for the cheap.
As they are mostly workflow/exposure tests.

The landscape / seascape shots are gorgeous! Thanks for posting it.
I'm curious about the third shot, a closeup of a mooring line point (?) with black & white flaking paint- was that stabilized in post? It has a sort of rubbery "squish-stretch" motion. I don't see that in any of the other shots.

Gunleik, you are natural talent!

I just loaded it to see your shot on wide gamut monitor and I have to tell you that this top of the ferry shot blown me away. The whites are so beautiful. We had someone posting hospital scenes that attracted my attention, but your shots are exceptional.

Any chance you could post 1920 or 2K version of it?
I see you exported to H.264.
How much sharpening did you use for ferry top clip?
And the most importnt, what lenses did you use?

Hi guys & thanks again.

I'll post proper stabilized versions of the shots over the weekend, and you can get a 1080 too (basically out shooting stuff these days...)

The shots are done with Zeiss SuperSpeeds and with a 0.9 ND on most of them (don't ask which or which T-stop...)

I'm basically doing this to put the cam through a variety of exposure/post tests to see how much I can tweak out of it under uncontrolled conditions. So far I'm veeeery happy...

As to sharpening, I've applied a 0.15 - 0.25 (about... a little dependent on the shot) sharpening on the 2k DPXs in color, basically just eyeballing what I think looks good. I went back to the water shots and did that there, too.

Sorry for the smoothcam shortcut. It was late and I wanted to post....

I (think) the results of my other small tests are about or even better than these, but I'll post them as they finish.

Cheers

Gunleik

Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful. So impressed with your work and how great to be able to drive off to the fjords with your new camera and capture such a sublime scene. Reminds me of a lovely Norwegian girl that I one new but that is another story.
Can't wait to see more of your work
Best Johann

Love shows, man. Great stuff.
Thank you.
