  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

AWESOME evolution! Looking more and more refined... Wondering if the grey is just prototype/rendering choice? Hope all cameras will be black. Makes it a lot easier to deal with reflections...

Looks really nice. Unfortunately it appears like you would have to hang a few sandbags off the back of the shoulder pad to balance out how extremely front heavy it would be.

Wait till you have it in your hands and put it on your shoulders before you start judging ergonomics. It's about how it feels, not what it looks like.

Dude its basic physics and common sense that if all the weight is in the front it's going to be front heavy.

All the "moaning" you are refering to comes from highly experienced DP's and operators that have had to deal with literally hours of hand held hell throughout their career because of ergonomic limitations with some old film cameras. The expressing of their concern is valid and an asset for anyone wanting to use this camera in the future.

As much as I love my red 1 for many many things it is easly down near the bottom of my list of cameras for handheld work. This was expressed by many experienced people when the red 1 renders were comming out when it was in development. From what I am seeing of the new cameras hand held ergonomics it will be more difficult to hand hold then the red 1.

I realize that some here lock down on a specific render instead of the modularity part of the program. I guess I always have to spell it out for Finner... :-)

Dude... the battery module is not shown on this render for balance if you have a heavy lens. Second, you can use the battery in the handle if you are not recording a long time and you have a light lens. Trust us, we have tried this and you haven't. This is not a typical shoulder pad. It rests on the front and top of your shoulder giving support for the front of the rig which is VERY small and VERY light (depending on lens). If you want to hang an 18-85mm zoom on this rig, you will have to add weight (usually batteries) to the back. Dude... glad you're home.

Hehe... the "dude" banter was aimed at our old friend Finner. We trade barbs with him all the time in good fun. I don't know you well enough to be hard on you... yet.

BTW, the EVF is vertically adjustable... angle too.

Yeah I remember this one... And it helps, thanks. Looks like you're new render added two more "ribs" to the camera vs this one. I'm guessing this config makes the new camera the same lenght as the RED1 or slightly longer.

I know I know, you can configure it any way you want so the lenght is what you make it. Another factor is that if I use my current battery cage and hard drive, then those are two units I will not have on my camera (At least starting out) so it will be considerably shorter.

I want to thank you again for making the lens mount so much easier to swap. There's a lot of good stuff happening in this area, and I think it's only going to get better.

Not enough to worry about unless you are shooting long takes of 5K @100fps in the desert.

You have to remember that even though the electronics are WAY more efficient than a RED ONE, the data churning through this mini-system is nothing short of mind-boggling. Heat has to be managed. And not just at 24fps. Higher resolution, less compressed REDCODE, higher frame rates in a smaller box. Your seeing the "when things really heat up" provision.
