  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Still changing...

With modern stocks you have to try pretty hard to get the old silent-film "look" where the exposure jumps around. You can vary your cranking speed a lot and not see any noticeable difference in exposure. You have to really swing the tachometer from 2-3 fps up to 16-18 fps to get that nutty vibe. BTW, the most natural, comfortable cranking speed seems to be around 16-18 fps. I know gearing was probably different across lines, but I wonder if that in any way explains why silent films tended to be shot at those speeds. It's pretty hard to crank at a steady 24-fps on my Konvas.

Ok, that makes sense. I think only the varying speed may be noticeable, right? BTW - what did you shoot with your cam? Do you have samples on the net?

lights on please? :)

Is that for XM radio?

So very baddassssss looking :)

So that module need the antenna only and you can receive sound? A little info on that would be great.

Looking VERY Good. what are the essential cables ? Brain to EVF ? anything else ?

Thanks for the extra threaded holes on the top. I'll be putting those to use.

The position of the handgrip as shown is completely wrong for how I use a camera, will it be able to be put lower and further forward ? Is it necessary at all ?

Overall very pleased, cant wait to find out what the antenna is for.

I believe the hand grip is for still photography style shooting. Like todays DSLR's. And is an attachable accessory so if you don't want it you don't have to have it on the brain. I personally like the handgrip like this, for just one man run and gun, you don't need anything but the Brain. Then it will be like your shooting with a DSLR but in 5k Motion. I think it looks sweet.

Or possibly is it a transmitter for the video signal to go to the monitors?

I'm curious about this too.

This render looks like the perfect candidate for the 2nd handle option. You know the one with the much more horizontal handle that projects further forward. This may be all it will take to fix the ergonomics of these designs - a 'motion-shooting handle' option.

Trust me... the ergonomics of this system are not "broken". If you can't piece together a configuration that you love, you need medication. We haven't shown all the pieces of the system yet, but if you look around at everything we have shown so far, it becomes quite apparent that the options are limitless. The foundation of the "brain" is small enough so you can configure just about anything you can imagine. You are not stuck with anything...

..Jim is there any possibility of you guys to bring back that $3000, $4000 2k ( 16mm ) or 3k resolution ... a simple body and lens & sound camera... give it another name..call it R for Revolution The Red Revolution camera The RR...the people's camera ...that would be an amazing revolution for those of us who are really broke... the first step to into the RED family...like your first car ..this would be specially heartwarming in this mad financial crunch... and if you think about biz side you have the technology. and R&D and marketing already ..and most important the costumers ...this site full broken filmmakers ... Now The sales..just imagine the all the students, low to no budget filmmakers, soccer moms (?) all over the world that would buy it...that would be buying into the RED dream......and those in no financial situation to be able to afford the ever evolving ( price and spec) Scarlet ( an amazing achievement/ a revolution)..a simple out of the box Point-and-Shoot Red Camera ...could you consider it JIm?

Um... That 3K for $3K camera has not gone anywhere, it's still here. Called Scarlet.

It's $3750 for a "complete kit" fixed lens Scarlet, which would lead one to believe about $3250 for a "complete kit" based around the interchangeable lens model without a lens.

That's a pretty amazing revolution right there.
