Steve Jobs quote, this is really inspiring!

No matter what Apple stands for, the idea can be good...

Just had a discussion here about how absurdly norway projects itself internationally compared to what we actually do as a nation. I can still respect what we say we wanna do, even when I know that for all practical purposes itis a big lie that we promote those values.

I like the quote...
Don't care to much about its authentisy or relevance to Apple

It is still a good intention...

i LOVE to hear your POV about the " astute-ness " of that comment. If there is any !

well, considering apple is now a super brand that many buy into, regardless of their "peg shape" or needs.. makes the comment about being different and not being a sheep kinda funny, considering this is where they make their money. e.g: my sister has an iphone and she wanted one before she even knew what it did differently, cos her friends had them, and just got a Macbook pro purely to write letters and facebook on...

not bashing apple, love em, its a good quote a true one, but the quip was equally funny to me. you are entitled to your opinion, i have shared mine!

:hurray:I know this is not RED but I'm sure no one will object.......

Great Post. A summ up about APPLE inc. and the it's father. This description sends shock waves through the spine of any conformist. To create something, perhaps new or better and most importantly different , ONE requires to let go of old and mundane. The creator must believe in her/his creation. Many of us never pass the lines in coloring books assured by the fact that perfection will be achieved by respecting the boundaries and never questioning them. Non-creatives get a chance to judge the level of success and accomplishment of a child by pre-determined standards in the form of lines and boundaries of coloring books . Steve Jobs shouted at us to stop the useless brain numbing coloring in within the lines habits that kills the creativity - then he made and made available endless coloring devises to be used in creative ways nobody knew existed. He believed in this new way of thinking and he expensed his whole life to prove his conviction in it. On APPLE's platform creativity has no boundary because the APPLE's version of coloring book is transparent. My MacPro 1,1 has been humming for the last 5 years and was opened twice for RAM and HD upgrades. Days come and go, jobs after jobs get delivered with highest quality limited to the budget only and we don't even see or feel the Mac anymore. Meanwhile when we do need to interact with the Mac everything is so streamlined and made for humans to use. Pleasant interfaces and smooth ride all the the way to other side of universe. Some one had described the Mac interfacing as working everyday with your highschool sweetheart rather than the PC-Windows as ones constant nagging X-spouse.

If it wasn't for Steve Jobs and APPLE inc. we had to comply to mediocrity. Steve Jobs proved the world industries wrong and he made a hefty fortune as the result for his share holders ( i wished i had bought some when i could afford them ). He set a new standard for the tools we work with to create or work day by day and his name will go in the history for it. He will live in every well designed, well loved unit of APPLE products a long as they keep to his high standards.

Thank you Mr. Jobs for all you created for me and others. They are all worth every penny i spent on them. I had to work many folds harder on the mediocre alternatives.

See this is exactly my point. There are a lot of this kind of one liners poking at APPLE products and tastelessly at Steve Jobs at time of his passing. If you have a problem with your sisters level of intellect in expenditure point your finger and sharp words accordingly. If you put aside your own black sheep mentality perhaps you might be able to see some of those millions of iPhones are sold because they are offering something that people adore !
This is not a AliBaBa forum. We are in the company of elite in creative thinking and production. We don't have to be necessarily good people by text book standards here but it is un officially expected of us to be able to think deeper than masses to produce successful compelling visual stories.
In my opinion the original one liner comment [ Ironically Apple's financial popularity is build upon people diametrically opposite to this description. ] is the standard issue desperate attempts by the collective of competing industries on the losing side. These bits get regurgitated by people having one or many personal issues related or unrelated to their lives. Do you really think Obama is a socialist !? Do you really think invasion of IRAQ happens for the WMD !? If you have unKnowingly become the mouthpiece for a propaganda then you can't be here as a visual arts producer. We should see propaganda coming at us from a mile away. Yet again you could be here just to buy a digicamcorder for a good price. In that case my apologies to you and the person that made the original comment.

Very well said. Take the APPLE out of this and it becomes an instant classic.

There is no reason to get the pitchforks and torches or ban them because they don't share you flavor of morning or humor. Geeez

Yeah but there are some comments you should just keep to yourself... And that would be one of them...

Really? Ban worthy? Settle down friend - just trying to bring some levity to the situation. I don't share the passing of Steve as a grave moment of sadness. I subscribe to the Irish version of morning. Steve burned twice as bright - half as long and lived a life we would all envy. Steve never took himself as seriously as you are now. I've been a Mac supporter since the SE days. Clearly his reinvention of major mature industries (animation, music distribution, phone, retail, support, product integration, image editing/sharing, cloud computing etc) speak for themselves. Any one who is idiot enough to suggest his decades of sustained innovation is "smoke and mirrors" is a fool or just not taking death all that seriously. There is no reason to get the pitchforks and torches or ban them because they don't share you flavor of morning or humor. Geeez

Sorry I stand by what I said. NOBODY took your comment as "humor" or "levity" -- there was no indication of sarcasm or double meaning or anything to construe that comment other than as an insult to a great man, on the day of his funeral.

I'm all for levity at the right time, or in a tasteful way -- but then quote a heart-warming or funny story about him, or something that makes a positive contribution. There are other, far superior ways to bring levity in delicate times like these ...

To quote Steve:

"The problem with Microsoft is that they just have no taste ... they have absolutely no taste ... and I don't mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way"

Your comment, whatever the original intent, showed absolutely no taste ... and in a BIG way.

Just think before you post next time, nobody understood or appreciated the comment other than in a negative sense, that's the bottom line.

Now, I'll stop talking about all this and let it go ........

We Agree!!!

WTF are you on about?, its not propeganda, its free thinking, its a funny line because i myself have noticed this phenomenon, not because i have heard it from Microsoft or the illuminati!
IRAQ? OBAMA? WMD? REDUSER?

plus, my 18yr old sister just completed her A levels with 3 A's in Physics, Maths and History of Art, straight into a well paid 6 month placement in Ingenious film investments under Peter Clark, so please don't flatter yourself about an elite intellect based on knowledge of apple products. there are very clever people out there, with disposable income who still want to follow trends. It bolsters Apples share prices and without the less discerning mass market, Apple would not be financially where it is today. Same applies to cinema since you bring it up. Its only a negative if you see it as a negative, it is true.

Ouch...

This discussion is getting seriously derailed.

Instead of discussing the quote and its implications, it has ended up as a discussion about whether that quote suits Steve and Apple.

Cheerish or hate the idea it projects.

Don't worry so much if the idea was actually successfully implemented.

Otoh... As I am writing this on an iPad, a gadget kinda only thinkable by Oracle And Larry Ellison back in 1997, it is kind of fun that he joined the boards and somehow implemented the vision of net-appliances back then into the Apple board, and maybe Steve himself...

Rejoice for cchabge when it is good.
That is how I read the text.

Stand up for what you believe in.
That is the second implication.

I hardly see how that acan be bad...

Cheers

And peace!

... And yet you question your sister's interest in the iPhone . Perhaps you should read your own post about her level of intellect and trust her decision to be the wise one. i suggest you to get her advise from time time. What ever you buy these days blusters some ones market share. What smart phone are you consuming !? You have to take aside no matter what. Just go on and be happy with your APPLE-less life.

While I have gone from mostly Windows since Windows 3.11 in the past, they lost me with Vista and switched to 100% Apple as of 5 years ago. I would have to say that I agree with your assertion. This sounds more like a battle-cry for an open source movement like Linux. Apple's hardware ecosystem is very closed by comparison. This is an old transcript of an Apple ad. Like many companies, their mantras and strategic visions transmogrify over the years.

Nice tidbit all the same. Thanks for sharing.

I admire Jobs and his accomplishments.

I don't use Macs because of the closed hardware policy of Apple. Apple doesn't give me enough choice to build a computer the way I want to, so I use a PC. I used to feel left out because there was no Final Cut version that worked on a PC, but Adobe Premier works just fine. I don't think I would ever use a Mac unless they opened up the hardware, which is not likely.

In the phone and notepad arena, Apple excels. I can't build my own phone or notepad, so the closed hardware is not an issue there.

Red is going in a slightly different direction than Apple. They've embraced Canon glass, and are making mounts so you can use it, even though they also make lenses. Choice for the consumer. That's great.
