  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Step, turn & sexy

I was very surprised at how well the footage started turning out considering the lighting. It really was "PD150" lighting - the most we ever used was one 1K and a lite panel. Most shots were one 1K open face or a 650 fresnel. Add a few small flags for neg fill or shaping light in the background and that's that.

Monitoring on set was handled with Evin's HD-SDI Panasonic monitor for DP/AC and Evin's Sony [right?] consumer monitor over HDMI for the director.

Footage was ingested with a FW800 reader on a MacBook Pro and saved on two independent FW800 drives. Total time for a full 8GB card to two drives was about 6 minutes [all on one FW800 bus].

Evin is a rock star.

The sun protection is a software on/off feature... its on right now but will be able to be turned off.

Gotta love a well turned ankle.

Evin, I see you get all the hard jobs!
I would love to see a side by side
comparison of the RED vs. HVX/M2 set-up....
You would probably need 5 times the light
with the HVX set-up...

Haha

Lurid sexual fetishes aside, Jarred why couldn't the camera's sun protection just make those pixels white instead of black? Wouldn't that be something relatively simple and far more effective?

Too slow chuck, I edited my mistake before the edit tag appears, as such your post makes no sense... other than the fact I've just written this explaining that I made a mistake in the first place... ahh bollox

AHH haa haa haa
Would like to meet you some day!

I've had to use a 1200W HMI and more for fill indoors with an HVX with a P+S Technik Mini35. Man, that rig needs a lot of light.

I hear ya. The HVX is such a light-hungry whore.. And the M2 makes it even worse. That's why I went with the Brevis. So much better!

Sounds good Chuck, we'll have to get it arranged.

Wow, we derailed this thread quickly... sorry.

I'm off to lure laura to my luxurously lurid luau. Aloha

There is a sensor protection thingy going on where if a highlight clips like 5+ stops over 100 or something it goes black. It's part of the design but I'm not entirely sure how it works. Next time I'll just ND the Headlights a little.

Something that I have done in the past that works better than trying to get ND to conform to a headlight shape is to spay the lens with some lite tack spray adhesive and while still tacky, put one or two layers of double net down. Gives you 2 to 4 stops of reduction, no color temperature shift and its fast and easy to clean off.

I am sure that there are other tricks that someone else can share for this, but its worked for me.

The video concept

The video concept

So the concept of this music video is that because that chick is so hot that dude has to line up three of his cars at night in a parking lot and dance like a maniac to get rid of his blue balls?

JK, thanks Evin for posting. You and Brook are the only ones sharing Red footage and I think everybody here loves you for it. Thanks to the owners of these cameras as well for loaning them to the boys.

khmuse, I love the spray adhesive/net trick! Consider it stolen.
