no "Steadicam" made by red digital cinema (well not a this stage anyhow...fingers crossed ) however, there are as you'd know many alternatives here is a link to one company which do make a specific Red edition "Steadicam"

i cant help you with any particular Redone friendly "steadicam"
price would obviously change depending on what setup you'd be looking at and what particular brand

I am an operator using the "red edition" actioncam..called red edition not because it is endorsed by red, but utilizes the red cradle and rods..so it makes use of the gear you will likely own as a red owner anyway. I like it because it is very easy to build and balance. The best part is the price..its around half the price of a comparable steadicam rig.

If are in the southern california area I can give you a demo and handle the sale if you are interested in purchasing. Email me for pricing or further questions: tonaci(at)redmodz.com

Tonaci:

What does your setup use for remote focus? Is it part of the package or separate? How is the integration?

The wireless ff is separate. I was using a nBartech but will be using the Viewfactor Wireless Follow Focus once it is ready. One HUGE difference with the Viewfactor wireless ff system is that it does not require a separate dedicated controller. It's all built into the motor itself..unlike the bartech which requires a controller which can see sitting on top of my battery.

Also, I've been working on old steadicams rigs to modified to new HD-SDI out of RED ONE , I got all lemo connectors and to update to work any situations.

Just be warned, the flyer is not the right rig to fly a red. Please note that there is NOTHING on the camera, no FF, filters, video transmitter, downconverter, etc, etc.

A bigger rig should be used to fly a RED.

arrinick,

you are right, new fryer LE supports up to 20 pound.
My Redone's set up is so far 25 pound minimum and I'm working on my older rig to modified with G50 arm.

I am confused;

You say your rig is 25lbs and the flyer LE supports up to 20lbs. So how can you be recommending it?

Which Steadicam solution is best for RED with minimal necessary accessories?

Thanks.

Absolutely go the Actioncam route. Clearly an amazing rig. Absolutely the most beautiful machine I've personally ever owned. . . and perhaps the most beautiful machine I've ever seen. Amazing craftsmanship.

I just wish that the VIEW FACTOR FOLKS WOULD SHIP THEIR FOLLOW FOCUS UNIT!!!!!

Only thing I don`t quite get is how the actioncam arms "feels" compared to an iso-elastic- or the new "g"-arms - as I understood the AC has 5 directly attached springs with no active geometry adjustment like the G-50 or G-70 arms. How does the zero-g arm behave in high and low positions? Does it lock up or has less elasticity?

@salimali : If you have the cash (25000+) to get an original Steadicam, then the Steadicam Archer or Steadicam Clipper are the right choices. I love the Iso-elastic system...

I have 2 system: one is original Fryer that supports up to 15lbs ( can fry up to 19lbs) and the other one is Archer that supports 23lbs (up to 25lbs)
Archer is excellent and come with G50 arm that industries' standard.
I never used Actioncom and I can't say anything.
I know the history of Steadicam and I learned from Ted Churchill.
Another reason, I stay with an original; sake of his memories.

Thanks

Here's a review from Charles Papert: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6416&page=5&highlight=isoelastic

"The arm is impressive, with performance that is much closer to isoelastic than this design of arm would suggest (it takes less force to push all the way down or hold all the way up than much of the competition, barring the big brand names). It also tracks well and feels solid."

Keep in mind, that the ActionCam arm can support up to 35kg / 77lbs and has a boom rang/lift of 96 cm / 37’ :)

Cheers

My Actioncam Red edition just came in 2 weeks ago, although I don't have my camera yet, (will be receiving it next week) the actioncam is just beautiful and really solid, and I'm sure it will work great with the red on it.

The material used for the rig is really strong, top quality. Can really recommend it. You don't need anything but the base production pack to make it work.

I own a MK-V Sled, Rig Engineering arm, and the AC back mounted vest. I love it. Highly reccomend it. Takes a little getting used to, but can't live without it now.
