  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

State of the Scarlet MX...

Chiming in here with my story.

Recently moved to the UK where there is a larger amount of shooters and owners than in Aus. I bought in on the first batch whatever it was, (six years ago?), used it exclusively for the work I was doing and then carried it all the way here only to have to start again at the bottom of the food chain. Throw in the timing with newer sensors and upgrade options, I opted out of upgrading.

Now the mighty machine sits in a peli case under a stairwell and comes out occasionally. It will die one day and take its rightful place as a doorstop, but after clocking over 12000 hours, it will be the best door stop I ever own. Not sure what to do with all my accesories but hey, paid off so okay.

If you have one, keep shooting. The sensor is amazing and you can't beat well lit RED Raw files.

I miss shooting with it, but the long game will always trump a sensor.

Amazing work as always Alex ! Thanks for sharing ! What lenses did you use on makin Pufetto “The Story Of Frederic” ? Thank you

Those were Sony Cinealta Primes, the metal ones wich come in 6 focal lengths - 20, 25, 35, 50, 85, 135. I've only used two lenses for this project, as far as I remember - it was 35mm(25 maybe) and 50 or 85mm.

Awesome work (and bts shot) Alex!

Love seeing the Scarlet-X putting out images that are still very much contemporary looking... hard to believe it's almost 8 years old now!

Awesome work Alex!

Most of my shots were done with the first gen Rokinon Cine (own).
I had a few projects where they used Rokinon Xeens, CP2s, Canon Photo, and RED.
I had a chance to use the Sony Altas but that project fell through.

Are folks still leaning towards Cine pro glass as opposed to the lower end Rokinos/Sigmas?
I'm considering upgrading lenses and would like to hear others take on this.

Scarlet-X #04147 Here! Bought 2 years ago from a buddy of mine who left the industry. Got it for a solid deal at the time as a package. My friends have DSMC2 and Alexa rigs and sometimes it discouraging to "keep up", but frame rates aside this things does pretty much all I need it to and the fan isn't an issue like it is on my buddies old Helium. I've shot 3 features + 2nd unit on another in that time, plus a handful of other projects. Trying to encourage people it's still a camera worth using. Difficult to rent in my market, but I'm trying to make it work for me! I do love the skin tones I can get out of it and IPP2 doing it's magic as well.

Fire frames Alex!

I had a chance to work along side an EPIC MX with my Scarlet two months ago.
It held well in most cases.
Just love the HFR in the EPIC so maybe someday that will be my next purchase :)

Wish I was shooting more with mine. Biggest bummer is that I don't want to send mine in and spend $500 to get the CMOS battery replaced, but I'm also too nervous to do it myself. We use it at work as an SDI feed and to generate R3Ds for testing, but its always rigged and ready to go!

Sounds like it's time for us all to revive this thread with some new work!

Hope to have new work shot over 2019 up for viewing soon.

Been too busy working on others footies ;)

This one was a mix of GoPro Hero 6 and my old Scarlet MX coupled with Sigma 18-25 1.8 ART EF, 70-200 f/4 no IS:

Scarlet MX/fujinon cabrio 18-90/ultraprimes

Scarlet MX/cinealta/pro-mist 1/4

and this one could be my Scarlet MX, but was Epic MX instead. But actually could have been Scarlet otherwise. As usual, ultraprimes.
