  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Star Trek 3D or not?

In my humble opinion, it ranked up there with the best live action 3D I've seen. It was in IMAX3D and it must have been the spot where I was sitting, the screen filled to the edges of my glasses, so I didn't have to move my head at all, just my eyes and it felt like my whole field of view was just the screen. To me it felt immersive, but apparently I haven't seen a truly immersive 3D movie yet (judging by later posts).

I wasn't impressed. I thought Great Gatsby did a better job of immersing the viewer in the 3D world.

but what about shot in 2d, but many elements framed and developed to be post converted for 3d? a lot of shots were done in 2d but set up with the intent for the 3d impressiveness after post conversion.

but either way i hate post conversion. and a bit over 3d these days. 2d showing all the way imho.

Saw Star trec in both 3d and 2d... Was laughing to myself as most of the time i had my glasses off and there was no 3d at all, only on some selected shots.

For me... For ease of watching 2d. only because I hate wearing sun glasses in the dark and head aches. The titles sequences looked good in 3d.

I had probably the worst seat in the house (front row, far left) and the 3D was just painful... couldn't read any of the onscreen txt and when it got to shakey cam good luck working out what was going on. But I'll put that down to that particular theatre chain having too many rows of seats for 3D screenings (a rival chain here has pulled the first 3 or so rows of seats out of it's 3D theatres for that reason).

Seen the 2D and 3D. Normally I'm not a 3D person but our 3D was on an IMAX screen. Also, like with the Dark Knight, it switched resolutions here and there (going from widescreen to whatever square resolution IMAX is). The 3D is subtle and actually quite nice.

I found that the 2D projection was dark and didn't like that at all.

I saw it on 3D IMAX, was a marginal 3D experience for me, though I really liked the movie(i was seeing a lot of ghosting no matter what angle my head was at). I'm getting to think my negative 3D experiences are very "theater" and glasses (quality control) dependent, and has little to do with the actual method of the 3d film process.

Saw it in 3D... Save your money.

Enjoyed the movie. I'm a huge Trekkie and purist with a lot of it, so I still have some serious feelings about JJ's new Trek. My biggest complaint is that it's been catapulted from "science fiction" into the realm of "science fantasy" and double-dipped in action movie gloss. OTOH, I think a faster paced and more action-packed Trek is what is needed at this point to revitalize the franchise. Hope there's more to come.
