did i miss something, can someone point me to the direction where this topic is dicussed...

keslow has new stainless PL Mounts with their MX`ed R1`s

quote brad wilson (keslow camera)
new, more robust RED stainless steel PL mounts (handles collimation in extreme temperatures and the stress of our heavy lenses like the 24-290mm Optimo's a lot better - another credit to RED for taking a great product to the next level).

I also notice it just now...
Any word Jim?
I can say... We want it!
live long and prosper to our R1s!

I'm also very interested in the new mount. It would be very convenient to have the mount upgraded at the same time as the sensor.

Hi,
This (Keslow's) post is the first I hear about this, unless these stainless steel mounts are the same as the original PL mount with ears, which the first few hundreds (or is it thousands, I have one, #500) had on their cameras. For some time the mount was available for sale on red.com, but it isn't anymore. Compare the two pics below if you don't know what I'm talking about. However Keslow may be talking about entirely new PL mounts...

Bump

Would love to hear from Red on this. I have some big zooms, and if there is a better mount available, it would be nice to know. Is this available for all, included with the MX upgrade or optional?

Cheers,

Not part of the upgrade. I asked about availability and pricing.
$2,200.

I think it is a scam... :-)

Seriously... overkill. It is a miracle that so many projects have been shot (without incident) without this mount. But if you are nervous... there is always a solution.

I too am interested in this new Stainless PL Mount.

I am curious if it will help minimize the slop involved when mating a PL lens with the Red Camera?

Right now we utilize a technique of "Up and to the Right" when putting a lens on for 3D...

I will have to check out the new Mounts at Keslow next time I stop by.

would be cool to get that option on the Epic :)
and would be cool to upgrade the screws to stainless steal too on Epic :)

It does not matter what the mount is made of, you are not going to hang a 24-290 on it with out serious lens support.

I thought "good enough" wasn't a professional mindset! ;) :)

The stainless mount is awesome. Does everybody need one? Nah, probably not. But it sure is nice to have.

chuck is back!

the lens support was never the problem chuck!

the problem are clients who think a stainless PL mount is resitant against temperature changings, hence the need of adjusting the backfocus every single day...hehe

Do you think the aluminum front standard (the camera housing) is going to be any more stable so far as thermal expansion that the stainless mount is going to help the back focus (flange focale depth) to be of any help?

I think to support large lenses like the 12x optimo, Camera Accessory Solutions have come up with the best solution as it supports the ends of the rods as well. See, http://www.cameraaccessorysolutions.com/. I don't work for the company, I'm just a happy customer.

Thanks for chiming in Jim, but I don't quite understand, you say "overkill" and follow that with "It is a miracle that so many projects have been shot (without incident) without this mount." So which is it, the new mount is overkill, or having no incidents with the old mount is equal to a miracle?
