  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stage 4 - Reservations are now Open.

Just a thought Ketch. Extended warranties often are for the consumer who has one or two items only. Once you have ten Epic-x's red armour for all of them will cost nearly as much as buying an Epic-x itself. What are the chances you will have over $30,000 in repairs for your ten Epics? I think in situations like that it is best not to buy the warranty. People who have only one camera are in a different situation though.

Brent, would it also then make sense to ship stage 3 orders to those of us whose cameras are ready to send in for evaluation right now, instead of waiting for busy stage 3 cameras to come back from year long shoots?
Just wondering if this is also an option you are considering.

Respectfully,

+2 !!!

Price clarification

Price clarification

old prices on the left, new prices on the right :

EPIC-X Brain ................................ $27,500 .. $34,500
DSMC Side Handle ........................ $950 ....... $1,200
RED Touch LCD 5" ........................ $1,600 .... $1,950
REDmote ..................................... $550 ....... $750
Pro I/O Module ............................. $2,950 .... $3,750
Pro Battery Module (Dual) .............. $1,250 ..... $1,450

Hi Jarred,

I see here that the DSMC Side Handle New Price is quoted as $1200. Is this correct? In previous posts, the 2012 price was going to be $1750. Has this changed, OR, is the above a mistake?

Thanks.

That's awesome that you are shaving $500 off the original side-handle increase. This I will be able to swing.

When is stage 3 meant to start?
I thought December but as far as I know no one has been asked for their camera's back so Stage 3 is still not happening

If Red stated that evaluating cameras would take that long and new orders would ship before stage 3, I would of jumped on stage 2 blind folded.

Please make this happen - again asked respectfully. It makes a lot of sense.

The serial number, in the past, has not been the determining factor in the queue. But the delivery date. I imagine a system similar to the MX upgrade queue would work pretty well and be fair. And those would couldn't send in for evaluation right away, would get a call in the next grouping.

The logistics of assigning serial numbers in advanced would, I think, be a bit cumbersome.

send me an email anytime. my red will got out via fedex the next day.

Pretty simple. We have to wait for a Stage 3/3.5 to come back to us for trade-in. If just one Stage 3/3.5 is out on a prolonged shoot and cannot come back to us for a year, should we sit here with EPIC-Xs on the shelf and Stage 4 orders in the system - and not ship anything? We cannot control when you send in a Stage 3/3.5 camera, you do.

I too believe that to ship out Stage 4's before at least asking who in stage three can go now - at a moments notice is not fair. I understand Jim's post in the other thread that spoke about the need to keep running a business - I get that and it makes perfect sense. However, as one of the first 1000 who bought into Red, I think that commitment and faith in Red has at least earned me the right to get a camera before someone who is just now jumping on the train. What if Red at least started asking who in Stage 3 is ready to go, then those that have their One's in use would simply drop back in line until they are free to do the exchange. I also don't think it is fair to make others in the Stage 3 line wait while someone ahead of them is busy with their One. This coupled with the onslaught from Stage 4 could and probably will set my delivery back to spring. I appreciate what Red is doing and believe in this company, but this just feels wrong to me.

MIke, don't take this personally. I think you guys always forget that you are sending back a camera that is about 3 to 4 years old, getting full credit for it and getting an Epic for a very, very low price. Someone on this thread already said this and I have to say it myself: I don't remember any company EVER doing such a deal. I think it was having this amazing discount in mind that most of stage 3 and 3.5 users went for this deal vs going for stage 2.

Comments like that make you sound spoiled which in some cases is great, RED has spoiled it's customers, but to then become expectant of me first, or I should get this free in addition to etc... It's getting old. RED has established itself, it had paid you back in spades and soon the party might not be as fun if comments like this spawn RedUser.

I understand both of your comments and agree with you on the generosity of Red, no question, hand down the best camera company around. But you have to understand that I choose Red for it's vision, quality and price and did so at #855. My issue with the choice is that I was told not to worry that all Stage 3 and 3.5's would go out before Stage 4 began. It was upon this statement that I began my transition from the Red to Epic. I waited and watched as Stage 2 progressed and then when I heard the Stage 3 was to begin in December - I began to sell off my Red One accessories and purchase Epic components. Had I known that my Epic may still be months away, I would have waited to sell. I went off of what Red told us. I understand that this is a business decision and no harm was intended, but I still can't help but feel displaced. I am done venting about it and will let it go, but this just doesn't feel fair.

Technically speaking, it is fair... sorta. Fair in that Stage 2 people put down a substantial deposit for the privilege of getting their (our... I have a Stage 2 Epic) cameras first. My camera(s) are not earners but for those who rent, that time advantage has helped them recoup some of their costs ahead of Stage 3 customers.

That said, I also understand your frustration vis a vis expecting shipping of Stage 3 cameras in early December but not seeing that happen (I also am waiting on a Stage 3 camera.) It is even more frustrating that there is no explanation of why the delay. And like you, I have made many decisions based on Red's expectations of delivery that have left me on an island without a raft, i.e, Nikon G lenses awaiting a Nikon smart mount (after finally hearing the Nikon mount is on hold, I ordered from Jacek and am still waiting on that to be built.)

I've noticed that the power has shifted. In the beginning, RED was very grateful to those who trusted in the dream and bought the camera. Now that the dream has materialized, we the customers are the ones effusively offering our gratitude for the great deal we have been given. In time, we will all have our orders fulfilled and the demand will stabilize with production. Then a balance of gratitude will be the norm and Red will possibly become just a business. I don't look forward to that time and I doubt if you do either.

So, go ahead and gripe a little... you've earned the right in my mind. But I think we should all enjoy this time in ours and Red's life cycle when we felt like kin.

Thank you Elsie. I do so love what Jim and Jannard have built and do not regret my decision at all. I will wait queitly and Christmas will just come a little later this year. As Jim has so often reminded us: "Everything is subject to change." It will get here in time.
