  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stability of 4.0.9, thoughts?

My monitor started freaking out after switching back from critical focus mode. Every time. All the time. Be a cool F/X if it didn't freak the money people out so much. After reverting back to the previous build, all it swell again :)

I have also had several issues with 4.0.9 - the first time I've had any issues with a beta build.
Auto-focus not working correctly... tries to focus but ends up with a very soft image (using the Nikon mount with appropriate Nikon lenses)
power up and power down seem to be taking much longer than before
had a few sudden power downs even though using mains power
there were a few other things I can't recall just now. I switched back to 4.0.6 but that too now seems to be less stable than it was before I updated to 4.0.9

Is there any part of the firmware that does not get replaced during a firmware change?

Ah, yes. I forgot about a few of these. I've also been experiencing #1, 2, and 4 consistently as well.

Hi Jonathan,

Red told me I had to send in my camera due to these issues.
They have now sent me a bill for repairs... although they won't tell me what the problem was or what they repaired...

Curious...

Regards,
Antony

GO WITH THE SURE THING

GO WITH THE SURE THING

After a disastrous commercial shoot with BETA 4.06 **YES, I KNOW IT WAS BETA BUT I NEVER HAD ISSUES WITH ANY BETA RELEASES BEFORE**, where some shots played back perfectly on camera but showed OFFLINE in REDCINE-X (any version), and after opening a ticket and sending logs. etc, went back to 3.15 and everything has since been perfectly stable. I sensed that something was definitely wrong with the whole 4.x firmware train (seemed rushed) and I was uneasy when RED, although eager to help, couldn't figure it out or explain at least why the camera played it back fine but not any other software (Adobe Premier, REDCINE-X, Vegas, AVID).

I just came back from Torres Del Paine park at the Chilean Patagonia and I wasn't about to lose some work again over unstable software issues.

I have no confidence in 4.x at the moment, but I'm hopeful that someone at RED figures out these bugs and changes my mind again.
