Hello everyone,

I'm a DP who sometimes cuts small commercial type projects. I've been cutting on Premiere Pro for about a year now, after being a longtime fcp7 user, and it's been adequate but I don't love it. I thought CC15 would change my mind but it really hasn't.

So, in my spare time, I've been messing around with Resolve 12. It seems a little less feature rich on the editing front then premiere, but I don't do any advanced editing, plus, as a dp, I love color correcting and bring out the most from my images. So it seems like an easy choice for me.

But, the one issue is, I am a big proponent of shooting overscans so you can stabilize. And, after messing around with the Resolve stabilizer for a bit, I found the Warp Stabilizer from PP to be significantly better, especially in stress tests.

So, I'm trying to devise a workflow that does 95% of the work in Resolve (ingest, organizing, editing, color) and then export to PP for stabilizing, then either mastering and rendering out of Media Encoder or back to Resolve? Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to do this properly? I've never worked in a proper post environment so offline/online and XML's are concepts I understand but have never seen properly managed.

Alternatively, if anyone can give me some advice on how to get more out of the stabilizer in Resolve (or maybe a plugin?) I can cancel my CC subscription and buy you a beer instead!

Thanks in advanced for any help you can provide!

Mocha Pro can actually stabilize even better than Premiere or Resolve, but it's $600. There are limitations in Resolve, but you can sometimes tweak results by changing the Strong and Smooth parameters. Resolve is not a great choice if you need to stabilize an image during (say) the middle of a pan. It's fine if the shot is already stationary.

There are also issues if there's blurring within the image and you stabilize the shot. The blur will continue, and that can be as annoying as the jitter that was removed.

Hmmm that's unfortunate to hear because stabilizing during pans is basically exactly what I'm looking for hahaha.

Are there any stabilization plugins that are worth downloading? I wouldn't mind paying for a plugin if it means I can eliminate my CC subscription.
