Rocky Mountain 4K (Red 1736) has received:
  • Red One SSD Module
  • Red Station RedMag (SSD reader) (x2)
  • RedMag 64GB (x2) SSD cards
Why two readers? Backup for the backup, if you know what I mean.

I haven't test them for download speed, but a homebrew eSATA CF card reader I built cut the download of Flash cards dramatically. I'll post times when I have the chance.

I thought my ssd disc was about to be delivered when a ups truck stoped outside the studio today. To bad it stopped by the wrong adress. Nice to hear its shipping!

Got the email yesterday that 2x256 SSDs and an R1 SSD module are with FedEx. Ordered om March 3.

Things are beginning to move!

Thanks, gonna call my BS rep then since I ordered in December of last year.

Are 128G SSDs moving for anyone other than Epic M owners?

Doesn't seem like it, one of my customers has had them on order since december too. Got the module but not 128s - was offerred 64s but they are kind of small for underwater, so still waiting.

I think RED just blew through their first shipment of 256GB SSDs and are expecting more soon. But you'll want to check with your bomb squad rep. 128GB are shipping, but seem to be going mostly to M customers and those with early orders. If you need SSDs now, you would probably do best ordering the 64's or 256's. IMO, the 256's are the way to go. They're the best $$/GB ratio and two of them are more than adequate to handle most full days shooting with the RED One. Three of them would allow you to cycle media regularly and never have to format or clear the media in most cases, so you could check and offload on most RED jobs and still keep a master copy on the media until multiple verified backups are made. While the 256's are the best $$/GB value, a lot depends on your intended set workflow and shot management practices. Some people prefer the 64GB size, others the 128GB. IMO, the 64's are a bit small for a lot of EPIC work, but the 128's make a lot of sense for most tasks. 256GB if you don't want to manage as much physical media or if you plan to shoot a lot of HDRx.

For those going with EPIC-M (or hopefully EPIC-X soon), you will need more media due to the higher data rates and resolution.

Does anyone know if there are third party 1.8" SSD card readers available?
