  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Square front lomo anamorphic tests

Cheers Tim, I meant to quote Adam's post. Peter is a lens/camera tech based south of Sydney. Highly recommended if you need conversions or servicing- meticulous work and has a lot of interesting history and knowledge.
His business is Photographic & General Instruments.

btw, how do I adjust my settings/details etc. I get a 'you do not have permissions' dialogue.

Hey Ev, what lomo lenses did peter work on for you? I am looking at buying a 20-120 zoom with back anamorphic lens in oct19 for peter to restore and convert and Peter told me he recently did one. Is that yours?

Meh, nevermind.

My 50 and 80 are the same but my 35 is very different. Front looks same but unfortunately the oct18 mount is a problem and a whole mechanical system is being manufactured

I'm always interested in these Lomo anamorphic lenses. I just need to figure out would to get them mounted on my 5D2 so I can shoot some timelapse with them. I wonder how much coverage I could get on a full framed sensor.

This is how I've been mounting my anamorphic lenses to my 5D. (While waiting to do the same with an Epic, of course)

Hey Adam,
Peter is rebuilding a mount on a LOMO 35 OPF-7-1 25-250 3.5 with rear anamorphic adapter that I purchased with an unfixed BNCR mount. I'm very keen to get on board with an Epic-S but currently using an internally modded 7d for a project. I'm looking at options for an oct19 mount for a Red One to test these on an MX for the project.
I'm looking for a squarefront 80 and possibly 30/35 but hoping the zoom will do the trick. Testing today with Peter was very sharp although with a very, very slight purpleish tint that is quite interesting.

After Peter sorts out my 35, 50 and 80 square front in PL I will prob buy the 20-120mm with rear anamorphic and get him to put on a PL mount also.

Were the flares from your zoom a nice blue and horizontally streaky like lomo anamorphic primes?

Hey Adam,

I haven't been able to shoot anything with the rear anamorphic attachment- the tests were without. It is missing the threaded section to secure it and adjust it. Hopefully Peter can resolve that and i'll let you know.

The 20-120 doesn't produce the same flares and visual style of the Squarefronts... the Squares produce more cream/flare than the Roundfronts - and are generally better built.

Any Zoom with a rear Ana is adding the ana squeeze 'last' so you don't get much flare (as the light transmission path is going through a standard, although still coated, spherical lens assembly) so you won't get a match for the Lomo squarefront style from the 20-120 (40-240). For that, you'd need the Foton with the Squarefront (not the rear ana adapter)... but the Foton is very soft and not relly a lens I'd want to use on set unless for specific looks.

The 20-120 is, however, very clean & produces a precise bokeh - with the advantage of being a standard spherical by simply removing the adapter :001_smile: The 20-120 also, when in Ana mode, has an interesting close up diopter function.

So, expect a match in colour styles from the Squares and zoom - but your footage will have a different flavour.

That is a cool mod. My biggest problem with doing something like this is that I want to still be able to mount my Canon and Zeiss ZF lenses to my 5D2. So this mod is kind of out of the question. I know that there are some PL to EOS adapters that work without any modification to the cameras. Of course you just have to take extra special care when dealing with the mirror.

Truly Amazing... the anamorphic look is in a class of its own, I would also be interested in renting when and if that becomes possible
