  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Spider-man on EPICs...

I can't wait to see it...

I'm kinda glad Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire aren't doing Spider-man anymore…

They just didn't do justice in my humble option. Bring on the Re-boot!!

Our original goal was to provide a respectful film alternative. We didn't see 1080P as that.

It appears that our goal had been met. Now we have more work to do as we have set our goals higher...

Jim

friends, ... i was in the theater the other day, saw the latest movie of an A-Director that everyone knows.

I thought, i really can´t stand the blown out skies anymore !! ... lol ...
(especially those in interior shots looking outside or dark streets for that matter)

i thought, film is so old school ... just' sayin.

:-)

now, multiply shooting epic with projecting it in 4k ... which should add so much more depth to the picture ... having finer depth cues, better color, tonal range, separation and so on ....
(Of course, i can only imagine/simulate this at the time of writing) ...

WOW, Great news!

How extensive is the activated feature set of these cameras?
You have to figure that its obviously enough to do a feature on but...whats missing?

Huge congratulations Jim and Team Red. 2011 will be Epic.

John tested EVERY camera before making his selection...

Jim

We have a stage 2 EPIC-X on order (and aim to buy a few Epic-As). It's amazing to think that film school students can shoot on the same cameras as $200 million movies. With those economies and that look! An absolute revolution in film school education. Thanks for making our films look so great, and for giving our students the opportunity to shoot on the very very best. The last time film students shot at 65mm resolution was in Soviet film schools in the 1970s!!! Things have really changed.

Jim has always known that the best way to market a product is have the coolest people using it. Worked with Oakley. It will work for Epic. The difference of course is that Epic must prove itself in advance. Kudos to Red and Eoic.

It worked for Apple with Final Cut Pro. Walter Murch, the rockstar of the editing world endorsing FCP as much as he did by editing Cold Mountain at a time when FCP was still not considered a formidable editing platform. The TV show Scrubs also pushed it in the TV world. I think RED has gone from new kid on the block to formidable camera company on the verge of securing market share. Not bad for only being on the market for 3 years.

RED will win an Oscar for technical achievement, most likely with Epic. They did come out of the gate heavy, but they needed some swagger because how else do you go about introducing disruptive technology. As long as they stay hungry and innovative, I don't have a problem with them doing things the way they do it. If Epic delivers the results we all expect, I find it hard to believe the Academy won't recognize them, especially with HDR. Time will tell.

I'd much rather spend my nights (until 4am) with you guys on this board than win any award. True.

Jim

Awww. Now, I'm all warm and fuzzy inside.

Jim, you know how to work your customers.

Massive congratulations on Spider-Man 2, The Hobbit, and the next big projects on the horizon.

YOU.DA.MAN.

Just wow and fantastic, spiderman is just huge.

Hey don't forget how big the corporate market is worldwide Jim, definitely worth conquering, its going to be RED RED all the way. :-)

2011 will be an amazing year as EPIC and Scarlet cameras hit the streets!

The size, features, and image quality of these cameras will have a deep and lasting impact.

And the experts at c.com laughed when Epic was predicted to be the "Film Slayer."

They are not laughing anymore. Film is slain.

Film is slain.

Tom, even if that was true (and based on how many movies are still shot and mainly shown on film I doubt it, though I know it will be replaced eventually, hopefully without too many trade-offs), I will never understand why some people would celebrate having less choices...I wish we could hear "digital is alive" more often than "film is dead"...sorry for the off topic rant...

One of the reason that they choose Epic because RED footage doesn't show

any aliasing especially if you have to show a lot of spider net in the movie.

Btw, I have got ripped of from the moderator that I'm a jackass because

telling a guy that RED footage doesn't show aliasing, that maybe he did obviously a mistake in the preparation for the shooting

and shouldn't cry loudly about his sort of issues here.

Also totally strange treatment of the notorious facts here at the forum.

And because of that I would like to show you a spider net that I shot with my RED 1 & 1/2 year ago.

Sorry but no any aliasing!!!

Because digital is better than film, and will benefit the industry. Film is also expensive and cost prohibitive for up-and-coming filmmakers.

I don't celebrate the death of film; I celebrate the birth of a new era.

Yes, the affirmation for our Epics that this thread provides is truly great, but it will be a sad day when they shut down film manufacturing and processing.

And when it does it may happen quite rapidly. IIRC that last Kodachrome (gimme those nice, bright colors and gree-ee-ens of summer, mama don't take my Kodachrome awaaayyy") processor shuts down at the end of the month. :(
