  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Speedbooster tests

Attached are a couple of quick tests using an older E-EF speedbooster (not ultra as that bigger). Nearly fits without OLPF housing removed. (of course you have to be very careful here) - Just wanted to see if there would be enough room to fashion a dumb EF lens mount to this, will have to 3D print one. Shots are 'Whacked' so no mount and a bit of tilt and shift distortions to be assumed.

Going by tests from Full Frame 35mm (Sony A7s) 5k now matches Full Frame 35mm. 6k is porthole of course. A 35mm at 4k is about a 50mm on full frame (single picture).

Sometimes I really want higher frame rates at without so much crop, and extra speed is a nice touch.

Custom OLPF (not shown) is tacked onto the front glass of the speedbooster although this has some IR cut I used a IR cut filter (52mm) on this Nikon 35mm Lens.
To do. Create a housing for the speed booster modded version of OLPF option so we don't loose OLPF and IR cut. Create a lens mount to accommodate the new flange distance.

Of course I would love metabones to do this, even if a custom low order amount was placed.

I was just pondering the very same thing. This is very interesting when you consider the huge crop factor on hellium to get 100fps. If it worked well i'd buy one!

I wish they had gone down the route as I had done though. The speedbooster 'REDucer' was housed inside the OLPF caddy on both DSMC1 and DSMC2. Easy to change and could be used on native Canon & PL electronic mounts. Brain Caldwell (metabones lens designer) was interested in doing a limited production run. Work gets in the way and you have to drop the things your passionate about.
Least I still have mine I suppose...

I was under the impression yours only worked with swappable OLPFs and I never understood how it was held in place (without hitting the OLPF or falling out the front of the lens mount?)

In any case, I'm under the impression this is just a new optical element designed to sit the ~21mm-ish away from the sensor as per RED lens mounts (instead of the ~18mm of mirrorless mounts.)

It also looked like Duclos/Phil were testing similar idea for MF to VV (though something tells me Duclos would charge way more than Caldwell/Metabones).

Eeeeee... about time! And a smart mount too!

Hanse Inno is the same guys that do the Celeres HS lenses right? I presume they're providing the optical element.

Is there a reason why it wouldn't work on DSMC1 cameras? (its the same camera body mount...)

The DSMC1 cameras have a tighter space between mount and sensor, so it will not work. But we're trying to find a solution for a DSMC1 version.

I just posted on the other thread about our SpeedMount:

The SpeedMount has a positive lock EF mount.

We worked on the product for quite a while now with Lars and Steven at Hanse Inno Tech. Feels so good to finally announce it!

Unfortunately, it will not work on DSMC1 cameras due to the tighter space between mount and sensor. But we're working on a DSMC1 version (which would be a new product) that we will test later this year. No guarantee yet if it will work.

We'll be at IBC in Amsterdam with our RED Epic-W and the prototype of the SpeedMount EF. Please contact me by mail or on facebook (store ABT / my private account) if you want to test it.

Hope to meet many redusers at IBC!

I'd still be interested in your Idea as well James as it seems it would be very cost effective.

If you end up creating one for the DSMC 1 models, you'll be my new best friend! I have a Dragon & I could sure use an extra stop of light for SURE!

Count me in when you do make one that works. diamondstudioz@gmail.com
