Am a Sound Mixer who is going to be working with a Komodo soon on a short film, would be handy to know exactly what input connectors and capabilities Komodo has for audio and timecode? Can't seem to see it listed anywhere on RED.com

Thanks rand! I couldn't find that when I went to https://www.red.com/downloads

Reading this I see it has both an internal mic, and can take stereo 3.5mm

Any chance I can record both an internal mic and an external input? Like you would with a Sony FS7.

(no problem if you're still limited to 2 tracks, and can't do 4 tracks although that would be preferable)

Can I set playback so it ONLY plays back the left or right channel?

David,

You're Welcome! I'll see if I can find that out, if someone who has the Komodo doesn't answer this first.

David,

Not sure if this video answers either of your questions but try this video out at the times listed below

Unlike DSMC2 at least at the moment Komodo only records audio via the 3.5mm or the scratch mics, so stereo audio at any given time.

Haven't seen any mutable tracks during playback on a RED camera to date, though I'm sure people can add it as a feature request.

As mentioned, the EXT port is the place for TC, Sync, etc. There are cables and break out boxes.

These guys have put together some great TC to EXT cables for Komodo that work great. Pretty much have something for all the popular TC boxes out there. Much better solution that trying to adapt to standard BNC connection if your box doesn't already have that. They test them on their own Komodo before shipping them. All the cabled I have gotten from them have worked great. Very similar to any other red camera with a TC box attached.

And as others have mentioned currently you can't record both internal mics and 3.5mm simultaneously. I hope that will be added as having the internal mics recording as backup for extremely loud car stuff as actually saved me in the past.

or the scratch mics

How good are these? Not interested in their audio quality but how sensitive they are. If they are enough to get a good waveform sync to dedicated audio files I don't need timecode for sound or a proper clapper.
