  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sony A7S v Panasonic GH4

It's nice in the sense you can get rid of some of those "smaller format" vibes. The lenses becoming a hair faster is nice too.

However, it does encroach a bit on optical quality with all of the reducers I have here. Compounded by the general pixel quality of the sensor it in my mind is just better to have a larger format system with a better sensor. But 4K internal options at this size and price point are..... Well. Coming.

That said, it's a amazing to have a little 4K camera like this in the palm of your hand. It's handy for sure. I have issues with a few things in regards to clipping and general color, but for something under $2K "I'll live". It's mostly used for BTS in my world.
 
The new Metabones Speedbooster and the upcoming Vlog for GH4 is truly making it a no-brainer. :)

I've become skeptical that Panasonic will release Vlog-L for the GH4 and I'm deferring the purchase of any additional GH4 kit until they do release it.
 
Nothing to be sceptical about. They claimed it to be true at NAB and its being tested as we speak. I just hope that they will provide for free.

Apparently Panasonic is having V-log on their GH4s at Cinegear. So its undoubtedly coming, question is when and will they charge us for it.

Perhaps there's someone reading this that´s visiting Cinegear that can give us an update?

According to those who follows Panasonics update schedule, it should be due beginning 2016. 4k 60p, 1080 120p and a 2stop boost in DR has been rumoured. :)
 
Not trying to resurrect a dead thread, but I have one question regarding Panasonic GH4:

- do you prefer / is there an advantage using Canon Lenses with Adapter instead of the original M43 lenses?

Using the metabones xl with my EFs.

Love em.

To me the big diff is weight/compact if using M43s.

Do you mean V-Log L? And if so, do you really mean V-Log L with 10-bit external recorder?

I have a GH4, and while I'm pretty happy with it as a 3rd-string camera, its hard to get too enthusiastic about what Panasonic did with V-Log L.
