  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sony A7r II - 4K internal want this!!

Specs are epic, though I hope there's proper OLPF in there too. Some past models had aliasing problems.

I don't see any aliasing for no olpf. Also no moire in this example and you should see some in the video. Lots of detail in those rooftops... Looks like this will be my next camera. I'm curious what the dynamic range is and how far you can push ISO. It wont be anywhere near A7s but if we could shoot 3200ISO cleanly that's a pretty big deal.

The camera looks great but it has a Sony mount.

The camera looks great but it has a Sony mount.

Which can be adapted to any other mount. Don't see what the issue is...

You can even put a PL mount on this thing.

Looks like it has a super short slow mo burst feature as well: http://gizmodo.com/sonys-new-cameras-supercharged-guts-for-a-supercharged-1710397411

The slow motion capture settings bare a little elaboration here: Slow motion can be captured at 240, 480, or 960fps, which translates to footage that’s 10x, 20x and 40x respectively. For each of the modes you have the choice between quality priority and shoot time priority mode. In the former you record two seconds of the real world in slow motion, and in the latter you record four seconds of real world, but in reduced quality. Here’s the breakdown of resolutions:
  • 240fps: 1824 x 1026 (quality priority), 1676 x 566 (time priority)
  • 480fps: 1676 x 566 (quality priority), 1136 x 384 (time priority)
  • 960fps: 1136 x 384 (quality priority), (800 x 270)

I wonder if the HDMI output is 10bit 4k.....

Not sure. It's listed as Uncompressed but we don't know the bit depth. 12bit would be nice, but 10bit would be okay..

Amaizing.

Sensor technology is impressive... now let's see the results!

The 42.4 MP sensor combines gapless on-chip lens design and AR (anti-reflective) coating on the surface of the sensor's glass seal to dramatically improve light collection efficiency, resulting in high sensitivity with low-noise performance and wide dynamic range. This allows the camera to shoot at an impressive ISO range of 100 to 25600 that is expandable to ISO 50 to 102400.

Additionally, the sensor's back-illuminated structure, with an expanded circuit scale and copper wiring design, enables faster transmission speed and ensures content can be captured in high resolution without sacrificing sensitivity. Data can also be output from the sensor at an approximately 3.5x faster rate compared to the original a7R.

I would say external recording to an Atomoss or Convergent Design device will give you MUCH better quality than that can be recorded internally.

Sony are cooking on gas right now.

Ignoring the blown highlights in the demo video....the footage looks very very impressive and this little camera looks like it could make a big impact. If the "jello" of the A7S has been reduced, the A7R 11 could be the perfect camera for the Ronin M.
