Interesting that 3840x2160 is becoming the tv standard "4k". I always thought 4k had to be at least 4096 by definition.

I think one reason is that scaling becomes easier to/from 1080p.Interesting that 3840x2160 is becoming the tv standard "4k". I always thought 4k had to be at least 4096 by definition.
Quad HD makes a lot of sense from a manufacturing and scaling standpoint, but that has nothing to do with the question of "How the hell is 3.75k ok to sell as '4k'?"

This, and also technically the term for the standard is UHD now, not 4K. Though I'm sure "4K" will probably still be thrown around a bit.The same way it's ok to tell people they are buying a 4tb hard drive when the drive is actually 3.6tb formattedNot saying it's ok... Just how it is.
I got the email too, the link is http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchp...##0##2&list=y&usc=All+Categories&nrp=15&iht=n
Overall RED should feel pretty proud of what they have accomplished, as finally 4k has arrived in mass market advertising.
Basically without disruptive companies like RED, standards tend to get stuck in 20 year cycles(i.e. so without RED we would probably have seen 4k tv's/monitor lined up with laser glasses deployment sometime in early 2020).Do you really think 4K would have not happened if Red never existed? The TVs went from SD to 720 to 1080. The cellphone screen resolution went from 640 x 480 (and lower) to full HD now.
Why do you think the TVs would have been stuck forever at full HD without Red?

Im curious what content they will show on this TV. Hopefully Sony will provide actual 4K content and player for them to show. It would be sad if Bestbuy just hooks it up to the same content shown on the other tvs.
