  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet/epic s editing system

I'm just getting a 15 inch MacBook Pro and will get a Thunderbolt RAID (probably as soon as G-tech start making them). Quad core Sandy Bridge should be fine for Scarlet footage in Permiere and FCP. If I was planning on doing a lot of EPIC editing I would go for something more powerful though.

If I didn't already have a new MP I'd go this route myself. Apple hit it out of the park with the high end MBP's.

cheers

Ehhhhhhh, if the main purpose of your computer is going to be editing then I would definitely get a Mac.

I use a Mac, as well. But in all fairness, it's worth pointing out that editing with Final Cut Pro means some kind of second external monitor needs to be used at all times because the color displayed in the preview windows is not accurate at all. It's not like using After Effects where you're seeing what the final product will look like. In a way it's a good thing because you're forced to do what you should have been doing all along and send the preview out to a broadcast monitor. But it's still a terrible weakness of the program, IMO.

Premiere Pro doesn't have that problem, as near as I can tell. I don't think it's an issue in Media Composer, either.

So Apple and FCP aren't exactly foolproof in that "it just works!" Apple way. And since computers became such a minimal part of Apple's business model I've kinda given up on them ever fixing it.

I agree. I found this out in my production class last year and since then i have found it a little easier to edit in Avid and Vegas for this and for a few other reasons, but thats just my preference.

Robert - sounds like you haven't been keeping your ear close to the ground. I think you can expect some excitement from Apple in the next 6 weeks or so. :001_smile:

Just wondering but does anybody know when they might release the next gen sandybridge

I did some tests on vegas pro and premiere. I knocked down the resolution to the draft setting and it was really smooth. But this was in 4k.
The ideal solution is to edit in proxies or say 1080p until output/color correction time before rendering. I have an I7 CPU Quad Core at 3.33GHZ running on 64bit windows 7.

@Paul: You have to know if you will be mixing in stereo or surround or both. M-Audio and others carry good audio cards with both configurations.

Thanks and yeah preferably both. Ive got a music video shoot coming up in a few weeks so i have to make a final decision on what i want soon, thanks for all the help so far.
