  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"Somewhere" by Sophia Coppola - Digital noise intentionally added

The bottom line, sanjin, is that filming or photographing films in a cinema as you did, is illegal. Copyright laws are important. Without them, a lot of people on this forum would find it harder to earn their income.

Steve,

you act as a copyright cop (exactly the kind of Orwellian) and as we know that cops mostly have very narrow mind

but also they can be very dangerous without consequences for them because they are always protected

by the system they are working for (otherwise they wouldn't be the cops).

So I do not know actually who you are and to protect myself from possible harm or troubles and the photos were already removed.

Anybody who wanted to get the info about the topic of this tread already have got them anyway.

Steve G, have a nice Sunday!

Sanjin, I don't work for any system. I am a DoP. You can check me out on my website. That is what I do for a living. Who knows what you do for a living. I will have a good sunday, thanks. I am having a day off in Cape Town after filming a drama up in the Karoo desert. Shooting on a 2/3 inch format. You may be surprised to hear that it looks good. Have a good sunday yourself.

Hi Steve,

not a DoP basically because I'm sort of a conceptual filmmaker artist that able to do many things even to shoot its own stuff when is needed.

At the moment setting up new lightweight gear combo and training myself to shoot with manual focus zoom (today on 7D, 5D, tomorrow probably on GH2 and next year hopefully Scarlet S35/Epic).

Btw, 2/3 is pretty good for documentary kind of work no doubts.

Below are couple of highlight photos from my off-road bike ride today all shot on 7D with Leica Vario Elmarit 28-90mm f/2.8-4.5, handheld manual focus on Live View with Zacuto Z-finder.

Oh Jesus, Sanjin is being hounded for posting one frame of a film for the purpose of education in the art of filmmaking?

Sorry, but this is total bullshit. FAIR USE is a valid legal protection. This is a not-for-profit exercise for discussing film techniques. He has every right to post a frame.

Are you going to complain to all the reviewers out there who show clips from movies next?

Get serious.

Are you sure the "added" grain just isn't in the release print? Print to a grainy stock, and bingo, grain.

It was a digital print with very fast speed grain and that sort of grain that could be re-graind already at grainy film stock original...

I never saw that before at any digital print that was originated from analog film source...

Whatever and also could be the first generation of Arriflex 435...

It's a joke? Anyways, for me it is an ARRIcam ST mag there, and according to the ARRIcam Book by Jon Fauer, you can put it in an LT with a special adapter. Don't think it could be done in a 435 or 435x, at least i've never seen it.

Maybe Steve should quit being a DP and start his new job at the TSA.

Great to see you motivated for film cameras, now, look at the pics and compare. The idea it's to learn all the way. Film isn't dead yet.

Carlos,

maybe you are right about Arricam but also I never said something like that film is dead.

My intention was from the beginning try out to simulate and get closer as possible to film look with any digital acquisition.

"Film Effects" from GenArts Sapphire plug-in collection is my favorite CC post way to process my digital moving images even stills...

Sanjin, as someone said before in another thread, knowledge unshare its knowledge wasted, but good comunication it's indispensable for sharing.
About film, if we, today's filmmakers don't even care about how it "looks" a film camera, then yes, film is going to be dead very soon.
Great to hear a review about GenArts plug-ins. You should post some results, that will be a great thread.

Here's a couple of frame grabs from a recent music video I shot. Used a mixture of Sapphire, Colorista and Mojo. Lens flares have been added. Deliberately large so you can look at grain etc

Sapphire is pretty good at emulating both neg and print stock, all Kodak although the above shots are not Sapphire Film Effect. When I use it I will post for sure.

That's strange the images didn't appear. They are images I have stored in an album stored here at Reduser. Any idea what I am doing wrong? I used the insert image button and directed it to my album.

Ah think I've got it now

Oh, now they seem to have gone again. WTF is going on? I posted the images, saw them on the thread and now they're gone.
