  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Something New....

Please Red , hurry with bringing ssd media to us...

We need it for a shoot half november... This is holding me from ordering 1 more system , because I think cf is dated by now...and don't want to spend tons of money on something I won''t use anymore in the future.

so please hurry, or give us a Certain day that's 100% for sure and tell us if it's going to be available in mass..

sometime late next month if everything goes well.. which usually never happens :)

No telling what all this was in reference to but it made me believe that the ssd option is a ways out. Not to mention how many will want/need it by then therefore adding to delays.

I'm in when you're ready.....hoping there's enough to go around. /Wish we knew how many were going to buy the SSD module and media.

Ready to sign up for purchase.

I think is fair to say that the demand will be very high, IMO only a hand full will remain with CF Module, I know I will have all our cameras, from the R1's to the Epics and Scarletts, all with the SSD Module.

We're ready too. Just been greenlit by CBC for a high profile documentary.

Long form narrative needs the longer record times.

The great thing is when I asked about acceptable cameras and told them I wanted to shoot RED, they were very enthusiastic about my choice.

Also waiting for SSD for RED One as well as the Bomb EVF....like many others I presume

You agree on what? Not very useful to most of us, as the video's not in English. Are you just trying to boost your video count? You have three posts, all linking to this video (I know, I've only got 8 posts:rolleyes5:). Maybe if you could give us a brief recap of what he's saying and how it pertains to this discussion (as my Italian is pretty rusty), it would be more informative to us Redusers.

Not to repeat my self I'll just copy paste form and other response, to the same thread you posted here: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=680228#post680228

... and BTW Gianluca try not to Cross post ... PER FAVORE ;)

Gianluca, not sure what you meant by linking the vid of the interview, but I happen to
Respectfully Disagree with most of what it was said about RED as a DIGITAL
Media for acquiring images in a Motion Picture.

Unfortunately Italy (My very Beloved Country to were I'm at last returning
after 20 Years in the US) still has a very OLD mentality about Media
acquisition and how the new Digital Media relates to the Story.

However each Director will see it differently so I value his opinion, but just simply disagree ;)

It talked how the RED used to have problems but as it is ever evolving has become a better camera with less issues, and it is is okay and for this He chose for this film He had just shot, but only because He intended more for the movie to be like a TV movie and not a Cinema Movie, as He thinks that for Stories were a more traditional look and high end sceneries, He would not use a RED. But not really his preferred camera as a DIgital camera is not good for storytelling as it allows you too much freedom t shoot forever and there for crossing lines with your storytelling, were you don't control the environment as much and shoot freely because you can, off course I completely disagree with his Opinion, but He is entitle to one, so god for him to share it, but completely irrelevant to this discussion, so NOT really worth discussing what it was said as it would hijack this thread so please move on ;)

Just a thought, if R1 data rates are well below SSD speeds perhaps it could be allowed to use non-RED 1.8" SSDs?

Perhaps. I recall someone from RED considering - at some point later - the use of third party SSDs when the market supported it as a whole.

Of course, the RED SSDs seem to have a custom I/O connector, so I'm not sure how that would work with drives "off the shelf".

One nice feature on the Alexa, is that formatting a SXS card, simply names the card "ARRI UDF" It's only when you record the first take that the card is renamed with the disk number. This makes the preformatting process much better.

Also UDF is pretty nice compared to FAT32.....just saying...would be nice on an EPIC too :-)

Bump again. I've got two 320GB drives that are showing signs of wear (either cables, or drives, or possible both). I've been plagued with the prospect of buying more, but with the back-order issues, and the pending SSD solution, I've held myself in limbo. And CF cards are simply not an option for me.

Need info what to do?

We really need info on when the SSD drives will be available...this is so badly needed by many...know you guys are busy with Epic, I'm there also but in the meantime we're needing some media storage other than 16Gb CF's.

Thanks and best,
Frazier

I just purchased a used 320, finding used 640 are tougher- but like you, I would have infinitely preferred to have purchased a new, SSD media

I know this wont sit pretty with everyone here... but once Epic and maybe Scarlet fixed are out, I hope RED concentrates fully on really ramping up the accessory/media production.

It will be a nightmare if all the cameras are out there but everyone is on back order for media and parts.

I'm sure this has been accounted for... but it is wise to be overstocked on this sort of stuff.
