  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Something New....

To avoid confusion, I don't want to post prices that had been mentioned in the past. But based on the RED Drive being EOL'd and RED Dropping 64GB CF from the roadmap, I would like to assume prices have gone down from what was announced before. :)

Wonderful news. I believe the 128 Gig for about $1050. But that's from recollection, prices prob changed. I'm stocked at this option. Bring it RED, only the best

Excellent.

SSD is the way to go.

Have them installed myself on older MacBook Pro and Mac Pro already to give them sort of age lifting in speed.

With this in mind then, the Epic X package CAME with a CF module on the side of the brain.. An SSD module was an additional $1,500.00....

So what's going to happen now?

Come on Jarred, give me a reason to smile here!

Jay

SSD Module will be an option...

So then, does a CF module still come with the package, or no module at all? Or did the SSD "side" module price change from the origional price listed a while ago just as Jeff is suggesting?

J

Jarred, can Stage 2 Epic X people skip the CF card module and go straight to the SSD?

Also, is the Epic brochure still correct, specifically "ONBOARD REDCODE RAW LOSSLESS 2.5:1 RECORDING TO 256GB & 512GB SSD"? Does that apply to the 256GB module announced today?

It will need the REDstation.

Thanks. :)

Or did the SSD "side" module price change from the origional price listed a while ago just as Jeff is suggesting?

I'm just hoping, not suggesting. :) But there's a large number of RED One owners who depended on the relatively lower cost of RED Drive media for their cameras and we have a large number of people anxious to buy Scarlet, who will be wanting a budget option with longer record times that 16GB CF cards can't provide. There has to be a solution here.... Hoping....

Jared, can Stage 2 Epic X people skip the CF card module and go strait to the SSD?

+1

Also, what Epic data rates will the SSD drives support?

Hopefully the SSD mags will accommodate most of Epic's possible data rates. I'm curious to know if the higher capacity SSD's will be capable of faster rates and higher REDCODE settings?

This is going to take a lot of hardware off the plate, and simplify things quite a bit.

As long as the pricing is cool, this will be a major improvement.

I have more questions than answers right now, but I am hopeful they are coming.

(Actually, I have more answers than questions.. But the remaining questions are pretty huge!)

Hopefully there will be a ton of drives available because I think these are going to fly off the shelves if the price is right. This option just makes too much sense. It's what we've always wanted. An SSD module to replace CF with higher capacity, faster speeds, and hopefully a decent price point.

Not to take away from Epic, which has many, many reasons for upgrading but I have to say the R1 is improving quite a bit with some of these new toys. M-X, Bomb EVF and the SSD module really do make it a new camera. Got to hand it to RED on this one, they are keeping their word on supporting R1 moving forward.
