  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Something New....

Offload speeds are wicked fast too (ie. in the 150-200MB/s range).

Do the SSD mags have any standard connectors on them? eSATA / Firewire? Or will we need the 1.8" reader for the RED STATION?

Intel seems to sell 160gb SSDs for around $500... If that is of any help. Speaking of which, will we be able to buy off the shelf, or will this be RED drives only?

I remember there were tons of problems with non-red CF cards working. Is that the case here?

Jay

very good to hear that download = fast

So, as I price this out, this is what I've got so far.

RED Station Base - $250
RED Station 1/8" - $250
RED Station CF - $250
1/8" SSD Side Module for R1 - ?
64GB 1/8" REDMAG - ?
128GB 1/8" REDMAG - ?
256GB 1/8" REDMAG - ?

Starting to look like a nice media setup.

Does this, along with the death of 64GB CF cards, that the new camera brains will not have a CF slot? I wouldn't shed a tear if that were the case if it made room for something else.

How much will these little basterds cost us?

What am I thinking, questions like these will never get a satisfactoring aswer...

Um, speaking of which, where are the mythical CF REDSTATIONS?

...I'm starting to question if I actually want/need one now. Really. Once I get these, CF will be dead to me. Won't ever put a 16GB CF card into my RED again.

You sir are absolutely right. Nothing RED does is ever satisfactoring. . .

Offload speed sounds quite satisfactoring though really.

Excellent. SSD is the way of the future.

This new REDMAG seems like the perfect balance between Compact Flash form factor and REDRAID capacity. You may be right Jeff. CF may be a thing of the past unless capacity increases. Otherwise, the only thing going for it is compact size.

Can't imagine it will be anywhere near the $4500 price tag of REDRAM. I don't want to speculate either as the boys will probably fill us in soon enough but I'm tempted to guess. :-)

$4500? Doubt
My guess ... Under $1000
Intel X18-M 160GB SATA 1.8" is $448 (best, if able to use with RED)
