  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Looks like Deanan has got 2k and 4k playing back from a laptop through RED Rocket's monitor output to a 4k projector in realtime (via ROCKETcine-x). I'll let him give you the details. Lots of love for "the Rocket" around RED.

It's friggin amazing to watch REDcode playing back at full quality 4k from a laptop (macbookpro 17", system drive, through an expresscard expander)

wow :)

This'll be awesome for dailies review.

sounds amazing! lots of cool development happening at RED HQ. even when things are seemingly quiet, there's massive energy outlay behind-the scenes...!
 
Jeez, never though you could do that with x1 PCIe.
 
Will this be a similar situation to the CF cards where Red will need to produce the expresscard expander themselves? Can't wait to learn more!

Out of interest, was the system drive spinning or SSD?
 
That's awesome. I guess it is only about ~30MB/s of data going out to the card.

I assume it doesn't speed up renders [or on-screen display] to realtime, yeah? Getting all that data back through the 1x slot seems like it wouldn't be very fast.

Amazing news guys!

I wonder how far we are from this: a black box with an express card slot in one end and a wire leading to a CF card in the other. You plug the CF card into the RED and the RED rocket into the other end and presto live 4k!
