  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Some cops harrassed me in the subway today...

Katmai National Park, Lake Clark National and Denali National Park. All of them are in Alaska. Seems like the park service employees are brain washed that anyone with a big lens or nice camera is bad and needs to be watched with a close eye. Rgarless if you are motion film, video or still cameras.

Sometimes I do not blame them. Look how close this guy is. I am using 500mm f4 lens

Great shot Greg! Just think what you can do with a RED One!

For shooting video around L.A. with 3 person crew, sticks and talent, I have often pulled still photo permits - they were pretty inexpensive and satisfied the officials who always stopped us down to ask questions. Seems like no one reads the fine print. And I always had a Hasselblad handy to convert the video shoot into a still shoot of a video camera if they pressed me, but never needed to.

I was once stopped on the beach near Venice and I realized later that I had accidentally shown them a permit for the next day's shoot in the Mojave desert - they just glanced at the papers and thanked me.

BTW, state parks or other state facilities and some national ones are usually very cheap and easy to obtain permits for...though I did have trouble in Denali National Park.

John

I thought they started charging a daily fee in national parks for professional shooting, something like 150.00 USD?

btw, can someone tell me how much C2 and ball bearings you can pack into a
PD170? (being rediculous, but you get what I'm saying). I remember during the first stages or the US invasion of Afghanistan, a 'news' team came to interview a leader who was anti - Al Quaida. The camera was loaded with explosives, he and the suicide bombers died.

The police didn't arrest you or threaten you, they just didn't know what a RED was or who you were. I'm glad they asked. That's not a police state, thats cops doing a very difficult and sometimes thankless job.

Yes would I ever love to shoot RED 4k footage. I will wait though to see what Scalet is. Somedays I feel like just breaking down and getting the EX-1 from Sony. My kind of work I need something small and easy on power. I go out for weeks at a time in remote locations. With out a doubt RED is the best thing for me and the footage would be out of this world. It may be overkill for me. Unless I use it on shots I can controll and drive to. Then use a smaller field version for the remote run and gun shooting.

My web site is http://gregsyverson.com/index.html

On my web site is a sample of footage I have done. Look for Alaska Up Close

Thanks for the compliments on the photos.

Greg, I can't wait when you decide to order and get your RED.
You could get such a beauty out of this camera, maybe I fly in to visit you once I get my camera.

Greg, you have some awesome shots on that Alaska Up Close preview clip. The eagles on the shore, the moose blowing air from his nostrils.. a lot of great stuff.

Let me know if you ever need an apprentice. :)

Soon as I learn what the hell I am doing, I would love to show someone else.

for now I have moved from wildlife to photographing women. Wonder how she would look shot with a RED CAM

Beautiful smile.........

Greg, why not to merge both, wild photography and women? :-)

btw.. the terrorism thing.. it's all over.
not yet.. maybe not yet.. unfortunately..

btw.. a sad story.. unfortunately..

I like the concept ((wild photography and women)) Maybe even wild women and photography.

Haha, these are my two favorite things. Beautiful women and beautiful outdoor photography. All my scripts are dramas set in the great outdoors with gorgeous women. :)

I like the concept ((wild photography and women)) Maybe even wild women and photography. I wonder which is safer the Bears or the Women?

You can always out run a bear, (down hill) ever try to out run a divorce attorney!!!
:)

Dave

BTW, Greg, do you pack a sidearm when you are so near those bears?

Right now I am 6 miles off the coast of Pruhoe Bay Alaska. I took this shot a couple days ago. It was -37 out with a wind chill of -57. The sea ice is over 50 inches thick

I would love to test RED in this kind of situation

We convinced them to get it down to -20 for you (see this thread ). The rest is up to you.

PS. What's the Internet access like there?
