  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

***some Canon Glass Suggestions***Part 2

The EF 2x II on the other hand, is only to be used as an extreme situation, as this will have a drop off both in quality of the image, and as well as light loss, but still very usable.

Ketch- I've been considering the 2x. In what aspects of the image quality does the 2x suffer?

Harmonica,

when you think about the impressive job the little EF 2x II extender does, and for what is a very little price tag, there is to understand that this come also at a price, you do get double the focal length from the compatible lenses in which it is mounted on, but you do have to deal with how it does so.

First off you will immediately fill it on the AF as it slows down a bit, the when your images are up, you will se a range of image degradation, ranging from Barrel Distortion to CA to loss of sharpness to Vignetting, and off course the loss of 2 f. stops. Any and all of this issues in your image quality will be visible in a more accentuated way with non L glass, among the L glass, the newest ones are far better to couple with any extender, the only way to find out if you can deal with the images you get, is to try one out with the lenses that will be intended to be used with the extender.

But again I have used with the EF 400mm f/2.8 IS USM and it produced some good images, but never as good as when I attached the EF 1.4x II.

Ciao
