  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So what's with Vimeo lately...

This problem Im experiencing are mostly on slow pans.
The stutter isnt on the original clip but constant on Vimeo.
Was there a fix to this issue?

Same is happening with Facebook Pages, it takes for ever to load more times then not... But Vimeo has been said to be on the down slop and trying to save money wee they can, like the site but they do need to do something about it been that it is a PAID service for many of us in the PLUS, or Youtube will take even more then it has already taken form them... We'll see were it goes...

Anyone else that find the vimeo search endgine to be the worst crap ever. To find any of our films I need to make a google seach with "syndicate filmname vimeo" if I search within my own portfolio vimeo can not find jack shit. Even though I added search tags etc.

I feel like they keep adding things like couch mode on top of their "tonk-a-toy" interface, makes the whole experience sloppy. The top, most important thing, that a video loads and plays without choking, even when exactly following their guidelines, is the ONLY thing they should focus on.

When a video chokes, people walk.

Everything they are doing on the revenue generating side looks desperate.

On the positive side, it is ad-free and paid subscription model with high quality images, but if everyone paid just ten bucks more per year, could they resolve their basic issues, like having a video playback without restarting every twenty seconds?

Same here in the UK. I'm with Virgin, 23mbps line with a Vimeo Plus account.

I noticed that the uploading was actually much better once I paid for the account, not too much waiting around for files to be published.

Viewing is still a pain though, I especially dislike the hit play 3-4 times before it actually plays behaviour on iOS devices.

We got 100mb both ways. But it's the whole thing with multiple servers and mirroring thats choking the internet as a whole right now. I do not know how many hours of new material youtube get uploaded per minute at the moment, but the number is quite high. Then they need to mirror that to all continents to keep fast local access. That means that for every file they get uploaded also starts to feed that file to multiple serves world wide, facebook, vimeo and most other major players does the same. So basically the big highways of the web are clogging due to media duplications made to grant fast access. So to make things work they start more and more servers and sends more and more duplicates around... you get the idea. As an example 10 years ago we could host our webpage with massive amount of music videos and commercials compressed quite poorly, there was no issue to see the files in the states or asia and so on. Today with much smaller files and much faster internet connections that is really impossible. A file that plays in realtime here in stockholm can take a few hours to download in NY on a super fast connection, due to the overload of the transatlantic internet highway.

So it's basically a problem that grow exponentially. It will not take long until we pay far more for up and downloads i think.

I had trouble uploading here in Malaysia but they were very attentive and even hardwired an entire IP range to a specific server so that I could get decent upload speeds (10 times faster than what I was getting). I've found their support to be MUCH better than the Youtube robots.

Not having playback issues either, but I usually upload 1080p videos encoded at 25Mbps so that when they crush it again it doesn't do as much damage.
