  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So is it true that the Gemini produces a soft picture? Do you regret not going to 8K?

I think the soft look was meant to be a direct answer to the legendary "Alexa look". The softness, the milky shadows out of the box, the softer colors (minus the magenta vs green shift of the Alexa) are all meant to match that of the Alexa. Where the Gemini goes beyond though is in the resolution, the sensor size, and the pretty impressive low light capabilities (minus the loss of highlight dr).

It's a beautiful image, soft, milky, some say "organic" but that's very subjective. I personally love the micro contrast and amazing detail that the Helium gives at 8k but wouldn't complain in any way if I had to shoot on the Gemini, it beats out the Alexa at it's own game in nearly every regard.

It's just great to see that Red has an answer to every camera on the market. The more options the better (well I take that back hehe, I like the small but very particular camera line-up that Red currently has vs. the 6 or 8 or however many models there used to be).

Why is this thread still going? The camera is awesome. End of story. The Gemini produces soft images if you don't focus correctly like any camera.
