  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SO how are Dragon rentals going in your market?

In Montreal, I can tell you that demand for Dragon is very, very minimal so far. The problem is no one has shot with it locally (at least, no with with authority and a big mouth) , and rightly or wrongly, people are mistrustful of Red's new products "Until they work the bugs out" (don't blast me for saying this, I said rightly or wrongly). The recent higher noise problem thread here did not help, nor does the fact that not all software can ingest it natively yet.

F55 Alexa and Canon C line are most of what I see other people working with, and the few Epic rental offers I get usually request (again, rightly or wrongly) an MX Epic, because it's perceived to be tested/solid/known. Whether Dragon is better or not, what it actually does is unclear, reports are contradictory - and people don't like that. New word on the street is that you have to light for 250 ISO because of all the noise. Its' hard for me to change that opinion too much, even though I try.

I'd say another real problem has been a dearth of impressive Dragon footage - the best we have is a few clips Mark did in his spare time, and the new OLPF does not behave the same so…. Some people (NOT ME) are even saying that the sensors shipping out are of inferior quality to the test units Mark and others had that made us all drool - that some bait and switch was used.

A Dragon equivalent of what Reverie did for the 5D, or the old MX demo reel, is sorely needed. Clear press releases about fixes (not buried in 40 page threads producers will never read) to noise issues are also sorely needed.

Again, I am not agreeing with this perception in my production community - I am only reporting it.

Red, please get to work with press agents and building a mind-blowing reel.

People want clear facts, and they need them repeated often.

The three houses I have any involvement with are having trouble keeping them in stock because they are out all the time.

I'm actually thinking of getting a second body.

Good news. Usually Montreal is about 8 months behind L.A. in terms of these things, so that is hopefully our future here.

I do stand behind the idea that it would be very helpful if Red did what I suggested, me thinks.
