Yeah. I can imagine that if this product does well, the other ones should follow soon.
Bad side to this is that soon everyone is going to have a cracked version of it at home, but that too, has a positive side, getting the tool SOooooo out there can only mean more users learning it, and widening the talent pool for facilities like ours that depend on it day in day out.
And competing against you out of their garages.
Maybe Lustre will follow... Does anyone know if Lustre is GPU based like Scratch? If thats the case, maybe Nvidia/Mac will get the drivers for there SDI card to help Lustre get on a Mac (and Scratch too![]()
A fully decked out FCP station runs north of 20K, so it aint exactly cheap either (and support SUCKS), Smoke is soo much more than just FCP+LUTS+DPX.
If you don't have the need or see the added value it offers, then maybe it isn't the right tool for your workflow/market.
Horses for courses....
"You do not need to own another Smoke to buy one.
It will require the yearly service contract to keep it licensed.
It will be missing the higher end node based compositing tree which will
stay with the full Smoke for now."
but I'm selling talents and not machines![]()
Its less about the features, but the limits of features, not saying a FCP with LUTS and DPX is the same as smoke, but the SMOKE for MAC is gonna be 1920x1080 max resolution.
Looks like the stuff that makes the SMOKE a real SMOKE won't be in SMACK.
