Ok , so,for 2 days now, I've been trying to get my Scarlet to work with the Smallhd DP6 connected via HDMI, but nothing. I've tried everything from flipping the image, flipping the Menu, but nothing- what else can I try doing? Also, I'm working with only the Side Handle (Was I delusional to think I could set up and run this thing without Red's 5 "LCD or a REdmote? Can I really get away with using only the Side Handle? At any rate, anyone have a good suggestion to get this working) Any help will appreciated.

I've had odd problems with my DP6 on Epic via-HDMI, but only have used it via-SDI on my Scarlet. Firstly, I have to mount the monitor upside down (easily done with the DP6) on either camera or output to avoid strange screen-tearing, SmallHD themselves are the one's that cued me in to that problem. Secondly, I recall setting monitor out to "1080p/clean" on my Scarlet to get a video signal to the DP6 reliably. Strange, I know :S

Yes, you can use the side handle only, works great.

Best

I'm using the DP6 exclusively with my Scarlet. Running through HD-SDI at 1080p, and I don't have to do image flip or anything. Really like having the menus etc on, but then also set up a DP6 preset with scale and custom scale to match my user guide frame lines so that I can instantly have a letter boxed clean image while I'm operating. I have heard of HDMI problems with this setup before though, so I'd certainly recommend the SDI upgrade. I used the force hdsdi_1080p preset (available through RED support) and also only have the Side Handle until the REDMotes are back in stock.

Peace,

-Harry

Contact RED and get the force_upgrade that has menus on HDMI enabled.
I have the Force_Upgrade but it's impossible for me to perform the upgrade without anything on my monitor, and my Side Handle acting like a friggin' brick. Right now it seems like I've nowhere to go.

I had you're same problem when I first received my scarlet. I had to get ahold of a touch to be able to change the settings to make the DP6 work.

What you are looking for is a force_preset file which will configure your camera with HDMI enabled and in menu mode (RED support can get you this file). You do not need a monitor to perform a FORCE_upgrade or FORCE_preset - that's why FORCE is in the name of the directory where you place the files. They will automatically occur at boot up.

What do you mean your Side Handle is acting like a brick? Is the display blank?

Wrong characterization on my part, 'cos the side handle's display's not blank at all; I think once I resolve the HDMI issue, once I have a menu displayed on my monitor, I'll know how to work the Side Handle.
Trent, I tried performing the upgrade, but I think my first mistake was formatting the SSD card on my Mac, or was it? All I know is that upgrade failed. If formatting the ssd card on my Mac was a mistake, I now have no way of formatting the SSD with my Scarlet since I have to way of accessing the menus..

Hey Jaadgy... If you want to take a ride to long Island you can use my monitor to set up your DP6.. let me know if you want to do that.

I've had a bunch of problems with my DP6 too, but a factory reset in the menus on the DP6 have always fixed them for me. Assuming you have HDMI out enabled on your Scarlet.

How so? Once you got the touch LCD, what did you do, what menu and parameters did you have to change?

I was able to get the menus on the dp6 but it was just a rental while I waited for my touch.

@John: Thanks so much John. I might just do that if I can't solve this problem today. It would be nice to be able to set it up the Side Handle alone, though. I had so much faith that would be possible.

@Trent Trent, thanks to the link you provided there, I was finally able to complete the upgrade; however, I still can't get the DP6 to show anything. Could I be using the wrong types of HDMI cables ('I've tried 3 different brands so far). I've tried all the tricks suggested my DP6 owners here, and still nothing.

this might sound like a dumb question but have you tried switching inputs on the DP6? One is an input, the other is an output.

a force_preset file? Now that the camera has been updated with Force_upgrade, do I still need a force_preset file to get HDMI enabled or is that taken care of with the update?

While I don't think its impossible to operate the cam with just the side handle, the touch screen seems the way to go. There are times that the side handle is way faster to navigate, but the Touch is just needed some times to get things done.

He's using HDMI... there's only one HDMI (IN) on the DP6. SDI loops through, but it doesn't sound like he's using SDI.

You still need to force_preset file. A force_upgrade file simply upgrades the firmware on your camera. The default settings DO NOT have menus on the HDMI; HDMI isn't even enabled. In order to enable HDMI with menus assigned to it (without a touch screen) you need to apply a force_preset file (or try to follow some blind keystrokes others have posted on the forum)
