Just saw this on FB.

Looks like SmallHD has indeed integrated Camera Control via the Cine 7 for RED DSMC2 cameras.

*edit, it's on YouTube now:

From what I gather on the product page new units come with RED Camera Control bundle (limited time) and if you have an older unit a hardware upgrade is required. I need to double check on that.

It appears it's using one SDI and the CTRL connection, I imagine it works with HDMI as well?

Whatever the case, it's an 1800 nit 7" display that can control your camera.

You already have a camera that can record proxies :)

Not on DSMC1, which I would hope this also works with (presuming its using the same connector/protocol). Could've bridged the gap, y'know.

How much is it?

EDIT: Just watched the video (it uses SDI+lemo, not RED's EVF/LCD cable). Should it not work with DSMC1 anyway?

Does a Control splitter exist to be able to use the RTmotion sidekick with the cine7 ?

It's only for DSMC2 (I don't know if it's even only for unified bodies...?)

Looks Interesting, a 1800 nits monitor that you can use outside in Day light on your DSMC2 and the same monitor can use it in any other camera or as director monitor.

1800 usd...nice!

Any Group Buy?

This is very interesting to see. But I get lots of questions.
- How do you see the temperature or how much is left of your SSD or battery? I guess you can output the standard Red menus, but then you will have them both at the same time.
- I wonder how many settings it supports. What do you do when they do not support some settings, I guess use the joystick to go through the Red menus, that sounds slow.

For us it is a problem that they use the Ctrl port, since our RT Motion lens control uses this one.

Interesting though, a brighter monitor would be much needed.

I'd like to know the answer to those questions too.

SSD and battery info will both be available in the main view for the final software release. Temperature can be seen in the Panel View. You could also output just that setting through the Red if you wanted to have it in the Minimized view.

It supports almost all of the deep level functionality. There are a few settings that are being fleshed out as we speak. We'll have an overview in the near future detailing what is and is not supported.

Is it possible to split the control port to share the RTmotion sidekick one with the Cine7 ctrl? It's mailny to use the REC/Stop function of the knob.

There’s a sale on this gear now. I ordered the Cine 7 with the teradek bolt SK built in. The red kit is free right now while supplies last, but I too don’t see a need for the control port to be taken over but the Cine 7, I do a lot of very run and gun light weight set ups. This is great for the AC for focus.

Hey guys, as anyone been able to get the Red camera control to work on the Cine 7 with a Red Helium dsmc2 body? Unfortunately I am unable to get it to work with the latest 3.6.1 smallHD FW and the 7.2.4 Red FW.

Thanks
Kenny

Yes mine was total plug and play. I don't think I'm on the latest Red FW but I am definitely on the latest Cine7 FW. Just gotta register the device, add Red control, plug it in and turn it on.

One thing you might want to check is that your Control Protocol is RCP. I believe this is in Settings or Maintenance somewhere. I don't have my camera in front of me but take a look at that perhaps.

Thanks Brendan for the heads up. I did verify that RCP was selected under Communication settings prior and it’s still not working. What module are you using on the back?

Thanks
Kenny
