  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SmallHD AC7 OLED - Calibration Fail

The DP7 OLED is phenomenal, AC7 OLED = crushed way too much. AC7 IPS is a better option if you're going the AC7 route, but if you have the dough, get the DP7 Pro OLED>
ohh I see

thanks!

I'm looking to get a DP7 bc of the 10% off--not sure OLED or IPS though

I have to say the OLED is AMAZING. Crisp, clean, great colors, great blacks. I love mine.

Man you guys are really tempting me here. I've heard that the OLED can be used as a reference monitor also?

absolutely. "- Perfect Rec.709 Color Gamut via 3D LUT- True black levels - infinite contrast ratio- 1280x800 high definition display resolution- High-res full-screen waveform & scopes- 8 proximity-sensing Smart Keys- “X-Port” expandability port $2299"

Just played with the color correction and 3d lut creation apps in monitor at NAB. You can literally color your footage in the monitor, export as a LUT, and import into your color correction software and vice versa. Pretty advanced stuff for an on camera reference monitor! Check this out for an intro to the feature: http://www.smallhd.com/color-grading/

Nicolai's settings are really quite good. I tweaked them slightly for my own preferences/gear. But SDI and HDMI should probably have different presets for each.
But how do you keep the presets when switching inputs? Haven't figured that out yet.

Contrast 74
Brightness 46
Hue 51
Saturation 54
Sharpness 2

Red Gain 74
Green Gain 81
Blue Gain 57

Red Offset 119
Green Offset 116
Blue Offset 124

Had a similar issue out of the box the monitor looked super terrible :) Have spend a few hours calibrating it using CALMAN and C6 Probe. Below are my results. Now it looks actually really good. More vivid then RED LCD but thaw OLED

Contrast: 80
Brightness: 38
Hue: 51
Saturation: 50
Sharpness: 0
R-Gain: 71
G-Gain: 81
B-Gain: 55
R-Offset: 119
G-Offset: 116
B-Offset: 124

just got my dp7 today

how do you guys access the offset and sharpness controls?

I have the OLED DP7 and haven't had any of these issues...
Ive had my DP7 since its release- have you ever tried to calibrate yours? if so how did you do it? Dave told me not to as its "good out of the box" but now with my Epic I've started to think it needs help as the colors seem way off (especially if i put the Redcolor LUT on it- totally dark and unusable)

Has anyone made any more discoveries over the past year? Or was this resolved by either Nicolai's settings or opting for the LCD panel?

Is the DP7 any better than the Odyssey 7Q with regards to off-axis color? The Odyssey 7Q and 7Q+ both have major color shift as you go off-axis which makes them very picky for on-camera reference. AFAIK the small HD shares the same OLED, right?
